Job description

ABOUT THIS POSITION

Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain robust and scalable software applications and services on the Waystar Claims platform. You will work across C#/.NET microservices, event-driven messaging, cloud-native Kubernetes infrastructure, and SQL Server data tiers to deliver high-quality, high-performance healthcare revenue cycle solutions.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain robust and scalable software applications and services using C#/.NET.

  • Collaborate with product owners, architects, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical specifications and actionable development plans.

  • Write clean, efficient, well-documented, and maintainable code adhering to Waystar's coding standards and best practices.

  • Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and ensuring high code quality.

  • Troubleshoot and debug complex software issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of Waystar's software development processes, tools, and infrastructure.

  • Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge within the team, fostering a culture of learning and growth.

  • Develop and maintain automated tests (unit, integration, and end-to-end) to ensure software reliability and stability.

  • Monitor application performance using Splunk and other observability tools; identify bottlenecks and implement optimizations to enhance user experience.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating and recommending new approaches and tools.

  • Contribute to the architectural design of new features and systems, ensuring scalability, security, and maintainability.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • 7+ years of professional software development experience with a proven track record of delivering high-quality software.

  • Expertise in C# and .NET (both .NET 8 and .NET Framework); strong understanding of the .NET ecosystem and CLR.

  • Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented and SOLID design principles.

  • Experience with SQL Server — schema design, stored procedures, query optimization, and performance tuning.

  • Experience designing and building microservices and distributed systems using asynchronous, message-based architectures (e.g., RabbitMQ).

  • Solid understanding of software development best practices including Agile methodologies, CI/CD (Azure DevOps Pipelines), and test-driven development (TDD).

  • Experience with containerization and container orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm chart authoring and deployment.

  • Familiarity with Git-based version control and GitHub pull request workflows.

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Redis for distributed caching.

  • Experience with Snowflake, Big Query, or similar cloud data warehouse technologies.

  • Familiarity with structured logging and observability tools such as Splunk.

  • Knowledge of X12 EDI healthcare transaction standards (837 claim submission, 835 remittance advice, 270/271 eligibility inquiry/response).

  • Knowledge of healthcare IT standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR) or prior experience in the healthcare revenue cycle industry.
