Job description

JOB SUMMARY: The Estimator combines drafting and blueprint reading skills to complete accurate takeoffs and cost estimates. The Estimator will produce accurate estimates based on material quantities and labor considerations.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and maintain detailed estimates and proposals under the supervision of the Chief Estimator and Preconstruction Director ensuring all bids meet clear milestones and deadlines.
  • Analyze project specifications, drawings and requirements to fully understand the scope of work.
  • Complete accurate takeoffs for Civil, Architectural and Structural components using Onscreen Takeoff, Excel, and Sage Estimating software.
  • Request material and/or labor pricing from vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors, maintaining a professional relationship and answering questions about project scope.
  • Compare quotes received against project documents to ensure compliance with specifications; suggest cost-saving alternatives when possible.
  • Maintain a comparative analysis of scope, quantities, and cost data between quotes received to identify potential gaps and discrepancies

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Engineering, or related field. Technical or associate degrees with relevant construction estimating experience will also be considered.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in construction estimating and quantity takeoffs, for commercial, institutional, industrial, hospitality, healthcare, or infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software, such as Building Connected, On-Screen Takeoff (OST), Planswift, Sage Estimating, or equivalent platforms.
  • Ability to perform accurate quantity takeoffs and develop detailed cost estimates from conceptual, schematic, design development, and construction document phases.
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, means and methods, labor productivity and mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy in preparing estimates, bid packages, and cost reports.
  • Understanding of construction delivery methods, including Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, GMP, and Lump Sum procurement.
  • Ability to interpret architectural, structural, civil, drawings and specifications.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Fully bilingual (English and Spanish), required.
