Deliver technically complex SAP technology solutions and provide technical leadership across SAP development initiatives. Lead system integration activities for project delivery while partnering closely with business product owners, solution architects, functional analysts, and engineering teams to design scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions. Act as the primary technical leader for SAP development, providing guidance on SAP best practices, architecture decisions, development standards, and modernization strategies across SAP ECC, SAP S/4HANA, and cloud-integrated landscapes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of customized SAP solutions, software integrations, enhancements, and extensions utilizing technologies specific to the project or business area.
  • Develop and maintain programs to enhance SAP applications using SAP development tools and frameworks including ABAP, ABAP Objects, SAPScript, SmartForms, Adobe Forms, iDocs, BAPIs, RFCs, OData Services, CDS Views, and SAP Gateway technologies.
  • Serve as the technical lead for SAP development initiatives, establishing development standards, performing design reviews, and ensuring adherence to architecture, security, and engineering best practices.
  • Lead and participate in the analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, maintenance, and support of highly complex SAP solutions, ensuring quality through comprehensive unit testing and support of integrated release testing activities.
  • Architect and support integrations between SAP and enterprise platforms utilizing APIs, middleware solutions, event-driven architectures, cloud services, and third-party applications.
  • Provide technical leadership for SAP S/4HANA development, including extensions, enhancements, Fiori applications, CDS views, RAP development models, and Business Technology Platform (BTP) integrations.
  • Build and maintain non-functional monitoring, logging, observability, and operational support capabilities for critical SAP business applications.
  • Build, implement, and maintain security controls, audit compliance standards, and monitoring capabilities supporting enterprise security and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead technical troubleshooting efforts and resolve highly complex production and operational issues while serving as an escalation point for development teams and support organizations.
  • Collaborate with solution architects, infrastructure teams, cybersecurity teams, and business stakeholders to define scalable and resilient technology solutions aligned to strategic objectives.
  • Lead code reviews, development quality assessments, and technical design sessions while mentoring and coaching junior and mid-level developers.
  • Typically lead moderately complex projects and provide technical leadership within larger enterprise initiatives involving multiple workstreams and stakeholder groups.
  • Evaluate standard SAP functionality before recommending custom development and guide teams toward scalable, supportable, and sustainable solutions.
  • May oversee the work of a small team, coordinate technical deliverables, and assist in resource planning and delivery execution.
  • In an Agile environment: Responsible for delivering high-quality working software and automation solutions while partnering directly with business stakeholders throughout the development lifecycle. Participate in backlog refinement, architectural reviews, estimation exercises, sprint planning, and solution design activities. Design, develop, and maintain automated testing capabilities, support integration and functional testing, establish monitoring and operational readiness standards, provide warranty support, and ensure effective knowledge transfer to production support teams. Develop solutions in accordance with acceptance criteria established by the Product Owner while maintaining enterprise engineering and quality standards.

Preferred Qualifications
  • College degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field of study. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field and eight years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Banking or financial services industry experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience leading SAP development teams, coordinating technical resources, conducting code reviews, and establishing development standards and best practices.
  • Extensive experience architecting and delivering SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA solutions across Finance, Controlling, Procurement, Banking, Project Systems, and related functional areas.
  • Expert knowledge of ABAP programming, ABAP Objects, SAP Data Dictionary, SAP file structures, SAP EDI, ALE, iDocs, BAPIs, RFCs, enhancement frameworks, user exits, BAdIs, and interface development patterns.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and developing SAP S/4HANA solutions utilizing CDS Views, AMDPs, OData Services, Fiori applications, SAP Gateway, RAP, and embedded analytics.
  • Experience leveraging SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) services including Integration Suite, API Management, Event Mesh, Workflow Management, Business Application Studio, and cloud-native application development.
  • Strong experience integrating SAP applications with enterprise and cloud platforms through APIs, middleware, messaging technologies, and event-driven architectures.
  • Experience with MM, PO, FI/CO, AP, Treasury, Banking, Group Reporting, and other Finance transformation-related SAP modules.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to challenge unnecessary custom development through effective use of delivered SAP standard functionality and industry best practices.
  • Professional experience building enterprise-grade solutions with high availability, scalability, maintainability, and operational resilience.
  • Knowledge of secure software development principles, application security controls, vulnerability management, audit requirements, and regulatory compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with cloud technologies such as Azure, AWS, and GCP, including security, governance, networking, and hybrid integration architectures.
  • Strong understanding of SOA, RESTful APIs, Open API standards, microservices, and modern integration architectures.
  • Experience with relational database design, SAP HANA optimization, SQL, data modeling, performance tuning, and large-volume transaction processing.
  • Experience with enterprise messaging technologies including MQ, JMS, Kafka, or similar event-streaming platforms.
  • Experience with modern DevOps, CI/CD, and source control practices utilizing Git, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitHub, SonarQube, and automated testing frameworks.
  • Ability to architect and implement scalable, resilient solutions that bridge on-premise SAP landscapes with cloud-based services while ensuring data integrity, operational excellence, security, and business continuity.
