Job description

The Senior Mechanical Engineer's primary responsibilities are in developing systems and components necessary to support the product plan. Responsible for assuring that systems adhere to standards set forth by the US Coast Guard (USCG) and American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC). Responsible for assuring that boat systems perform in a safe and reliable manner throughout the expected service life of the product. Primary focus on New Product Development and PDM; supports current product, customer service, product compliance, audit personnel and production team associates. Provides technical assistance to internal departments during product installation and to resolve operational problems. Assists in the development and validation of sales material.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Develops and maintains designs in support of the product plan
  • Maintain and mange PDM
  • Maintains service documentation
  • Assists in training production personnel, with occasion need to answer operational questions
  • Validates and proposes changes to the product line with the goal of improving ease of use for the customer and reducing the cost of production
  • Test and troubleshoot boats on the water in a lake or river environment
  • Alternate sitting and standing, frequent walking and some lifting to 25 Lbs
  • Also required to climb ladders as necessary to access boat interiors
  • Ability and willingness to wear PPE as required

Skills & Knowledge:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent experience usually acquired through more than 5 years of experience, developing boats / related products is a great desire
  • Ability to tow and drive boats is a desire, but training will be involved
  • Good working knowledge of design and mechanical capabilities of common boat building materials
  • NMMA Compliance Specialist preferred, but not required
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical, negotiation & problem-solving skills
  • Additional requirements include familiarity with personal computing software (i.e. MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint)
  • Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization are also required
  • Self-motivated, willingness to roll up yourselves and assist others, positive team member with ability to stay flexible
