Position Summary

This position is responsible to improve and develop machines, tools, equipment, and processes, for effective and efficient production while ensuring that safety, quality, and productivity goals can be achieved daily. This position supports the leadership team and works with the manufacturing plant industrial maintenance technicians.


Position Responsibilities

  • Develop safe procedures and lock out/tag out instructions for new and existing equipment and processes
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports to improve processes or equipment
  • Investigate equipment failures and performance issues to diagnose root causes of safety, quality, or productivity issues and make recommendations to maintenance for resolution
  • Understand potential chemical reactions and chemical compatibilities for new and existing processes
  • Develop and execute tooling design, build, and maintenance plans
  • Working knowledge of basic automated manufacturing machine elements including pneumatics, hydraulics, PLC's, switches, etc.
  • Estimate costs, obtain quotes, and present recommendations for process and facilities equipment and construction projects. Prepare related project documents, including RFQ (requests for quotes), quote comparisons, PRA (purchase request authorization), purchase contracts, Gantt charts, and others as required.
  • Prioritize project requests with manufacturing leadership and other internal customers. Coordinate execution of projects with Maintenance and Production teams.
  • Write standard work for processes and set target production rates
  • Apply lean and continuous improvement management principles throughout the department's daily activities
  • Flexible work schedule to include coordination of 24-hour on-call service to manufacturing maintenance and off-shift problem resolution
  • Establish and maintain a working environment conducive to positive morale, individual style, quality, creativity, and teamwork
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge and Experience

  • 0-5 years of manufacturing engineering experience
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including listening, coaching, and conflict resolution.
  • Working knowledge of all applicable OSHA standards including lockout/tag out, confined spaces, blood borne pathogens, machine guarding, hazardous communication, personal protective equipment, etc.
  • Familiarity with and prior utilization of continuous improvement manufacturing concepts, including lean and Six Sigma methodology.
  • Familiarity with FMEA
  • Working knowledge of PLC programming preferred
  • Experience with packaging equipment in a chemical processing environment preferred
  • Experience in preparing project scope assessments, capital plan authorization, vendor assessments/selection, etc. preferred
  • Experience with 2D drafting software (example: AutoCAD) or 3D software

Education and Certification

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline is required.
