Position Overview
This role is essential for delivering exceptional patient-centered care within telemetry units. The Advanced Telemetry RN at the Clinical Nurse II level demonstrates specialized skills and certifications, working independently while collaborating closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Care:
    • Monitor patients requiring continuous cardiac observation.
    • Conduct thorough assessments and respond swiftly to changes in cardiac rhythms, neurological status, and overall condition.
    • Administer medications, including non-titratable drips, and monitor therapeutic effects.
    • Create and implement personalized care plans for cardiac, neurological, and related conditions.
    • Advocate for patients, ensuring dignity, empathy, and compassionate care.
    • Educate patients and families on medical conditions, medications, and lifestyle adjustments.
    • Promote evidence-based telemetry care practices.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Maintain a safe, clean environment adhering to infection control and institutional policies.
    • Comply with regulatory standards such as The Joint Commission and OSHA.
    • Identify and report safety hazards and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Documentation:
    • Accurately document patient care, interventions, and responses in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) following patient care standards.

Qualifications
Experience:
  • Experienced Telemetry RN: Minimum two years in telemetry or equivalent intermediate care setting.
  • Transitional RN Program: Minimum two years in acute care or equivalent setting.
  • Proficient in post-procedure care including cardiac catheterization, pacemaker insertion, and post-CABG monitoring.
  • Skilled in ECG/EKG interpretation and arrhythmia management.
  • Able to thrive in fast-paced, high-acuity environments requiring quick decision-making and teamwork.
Competencies:
  • Technical proficiency with centralized cardiac monitoring systems.
  • Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with five years telemetry nursing experience may be considered.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Current Registered Nurse license in the applicable state.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate required for progressive care units; transitional RNs must obtain within six months.
  • Preferred: Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) or Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN Adult) or equivalent.
