About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Corporate Banking Associate to join the FIG Banks Portfolio Management team within the Corporate & Investment Bank. The Associate will partner with Relationship Managers, Industry Coverage and Independent Risk Management to execute credit-related functions and portfolio support for banks and bank-like institutions of varying size and complexity located across North America. The team both initiates coverage and manages an existing portfolio of lending and interbank exposures, providing broad product exposure and direct access to the senior Portfolio Managers within the FIG industry vertical.
In this role, you will:
- Participate in structuring and executing transactions - working with coverage and product partners on transaction structure, documentation and risk-adjusted return assessment - and support more senior staff with financial and credit analysis for an assigned portfolio of banks within the Corporate Banking Relationship Management functional area
- Prepare timely and accurate written credit analysis of banks in assigned markets, including extensive financial statement analysis of individual institutions and comparison to peer institutions
- Support credit monitoring annual reviews, status updates, focus reviews and risk rating recommendations with oversight from the Portfolio Manager
- Review and interpret credit policies and procedures and incorporate requirements into credit analysis, observations and lending recommendations, and take responsibility for adherence to all Wells Fargo credit policies and procedures
- Review credit agreements and supporting documentation with internal and external counsel, and develop recommendations on waivers, amendments and consents
- Coordinate with operational and middle office teams on day-to-day portfolio activity, including drawdowns, limit set-up, and resolve items escalated by Analysts
- Represent the bank in developing and maintaining relationships with smaller or less complex clients - including credit due diligence and client meetings alongside senior coverage partners - and drive proactive, strategic business development to grow and retain a profitable portfolio
- Contribute to regular reporting on the loan portfolio and Banks sector trends for senior leadership, Independent Risk Management and coverage partners - including transaction databases and peer comps for the team, and preparation of materials for internal and external audit and examination processes
- Review the work of Analysts - including models, credit write-ups and monitoring deliverables - before submission to the Portfolio Manager, and participate in the training and mentoring of Analysts on the team
Required Qualifications:
- 2+ years of Corporate Banking Relationship Management experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge of bank and financial institution credit risk assessment and underwriting standards
- Experience in corporate banking portfolio management and underwriting
- A BS/BA degree or higher in business administration, finance, economics or accounting
- Corporate Banking Program Analyst formal training with a Tier 1 bank
- Strong financial modeling, credit, accounting and technical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills
- Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, achieve goals, and work under pressure in a dynamic, fast paced and complex environment
- Demonstrated excellence in working effectively as an individual and as part of a team
- Experience reviewing, checking or mentoring the work of less tenured colleagues
- High level of initiative and accountability
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work with team members who are in different locations
- Ability to act with integrity, good character and exercise sound judgement, including making timely decisions in a fast-paced and results-driven environment
Job Expectations:
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
- Obtaining and/or maintaining appropriate Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) license(s) is required for ongoing employment in this position. Securities Industry Essentials (SIE)and FINRA Series 63 and 79 examinations, or equivalent must be completed within either a 90 or 180-day time period following commencement of employment, depending upon the number of license(s) needed if not immediately available to transfer upon hire. FINRA recognized equivalents will be accepted. This will be communicated at time of offer acceptance. Compliance with state law registration and licensing requirements is mandatory. In addition to state registration and licensing requirements, specific product licenses or SAFE licensing may apply. Additional requirements include meeting enhanced financial fitness and criminal background standards. Wells Fargo will initiate the FINRA licensing review process at the time of offer acceptance. For specific FINRA qualification exams obtained after 9/30/2018, the Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) exam co-requisite is required.
- This position is subject to FINRA Background Screening Requirements, including successful completion and clearing of a background check. Internal transfers are subject to compliance with 17 CFR 240.17f-2 of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and FINRA Bylaws, Article III, Section 3, which states that Associated Persons should not be subject to statutory disqualification. Successful candidates must also meet ongoing regulatory requirements including additional screening and are required to report certain incidents.

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.
