The opportunity

Delaware North is hiring a full-time Director of Risk Management to join our team at our global headquarters in Buffalo, New York. As the Director of Risk Management, you will be responsible for managing the Corporate Risk Management department’s personnel and activities regarding insurance programs, both domestically and internationally. If you are a leader dedicated to service excellence and seek a culture of bringing company values to life, apply today. 

Pay

Minimum – Anticipated Maximum Base Salary: $121,700 - $164,300 / year

In addition to base salary, we offer an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based, uncapped sales incentive plan. The advertised pay range represents what we believe at the time of this job posting, that we would be willing to pay for this position. Only in special circumstances, where a candidate has education, training, or experience that far exceeds the requirements for the position, would we consider paying higher than the stated range. What will you do?
  • Develop and execute cost-effective insurance financing strategies while maintaining appropriate insurance coverage across the company’s portfolio of operations and locations 
  • Partner with brokers, carriers, and consultants to secure favorable coverage terms, evaluate market options, and support evolving business needs 
  • Direct claims management activities by overseeing claim resolution, settlements, reserving practices, and performance of brokers, administrators, and carriers 
  • Review contracts, bids, and insurance programs to minimize liability exposure and recommend coverage enhancements that support business growth 
  • Manage insurance cost allocation methodologies, claims-related expenses, and financial reporting to promote accountability and informed decision-making across subsidiaries 
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate organizational risks through risk management programs, loss prevention strategies, and property vulnerability evaluations 
  • Advise business units on insurance coverage requirements, negotiate policy adjustments, and ensure protection aligns with operational exposures 
  • Prepare and oversee financial analyses, reserve planning, and program performance reporting while providing strategic recommendations to senior leadership on risk and insurance matters 
More about you
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred and/or Associate Risk Management or Certificate in Property Casualty Underwriter preferred 
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in risk management with knowledge of finance, tax, and accounting as it applies to risk management and insurance programs; strategic risk management experience preferred
  • Previous insurance coverage experience coupled with workers comp, general liability and auto claims experience required
  • Ability to work with internal stakeholders, defense attorneys, claim adjusters, and insurance broker claims advocates 
  • Knowledge of jurisdictional workers’ compensation statutes, typical litigation procedures, casualty claims adjustment principles, medical management processes, and related medical and legal terms 
  • Analytical skills, communication skills, and ability to work independently 
  • Working knowledge and experience with loss-sensitive casualty plans, including collateral requirements  
  • Working knowledge and experience with large, syndicated property programs  
  • Experience with management of Workers' Compensation, General Liability and Property Claims
