The Associate Remote Gis and GIS Technician roles share similar educational backgrounds and industry usage, but the Associate Remote Gis typically emphasizes remote, flexible work, while GIS Technicians may work on-site or remotely with more technical responsibilities. Both roles are essential in GIS projects, with the Associate Remote Gis often serving as an entry point for remote GIS work.

Is GIS still in demand?

GIS (Geographic Information Systems) professionals, including those in associate remote GIS roles, are in steady demand due to the increasing reliance on spatial data analysis in sectors like urban planning, environmental management, and logistics. Skills in GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS, along with data management and analysis abilities, enhance job prospects in this field.

Can GIS jobs be remote?

GIS jobs, including roles like Associate Remote GIS, can often be performed remotely, especially those focused on data analysis, mapping, and software use. They serve as starting points for careers in geographic information systems and often require relevant coursework or certifications.

Will GIS be overtaken by AI?

GIS professionals use specialized software and spatial analysis skills that AI can assist but not fully replace. AI can automate data processing and pattern recognition, enhancing GIS workflows, but human expertise remains essential for interpretation and decision-making in GIS roles. Continuous learning of new tools and techniques is important for GIS specialists to stay current.

Job description

Position Overview
US Renewables LLC (USR) is seeking a Land Agent with a proven track record of leading successful land campaigns for renewable energy projects. In this role, you will develop and execute land acquisition strategies for utility scale solar and battery energy storage project sites. You will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders—landowners, local governments, and community organizations—to secure project sites and drive growth across the United States. This is a remote position but you have to be willing to travel 50% of the time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead land acquisition campaigns for greenfield and existing projects, from strategy through successful negotiation of leases, easements, and purchase agreements.
  • Conduct land records research to identify, validate, and contact prospective landowners.
  • Present project benefits to individual landowners, small groups, and occasionally larger community forums.
  • Negotiate contract terms and conditions aligned with company goals, ensuring accuracy and completeness in all agreements.
  • Collaborate with Legal to manage documentation and address title curative matters, including obtaining signatures and recording documents.
  • Maintain organized project records and regularly update project data in GIS mapping tools (preferably Anderson Optimization or PV Case).
  • Track and report progress to internal teams and leadership, including regular status updates, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with landowners throughout the development lifecycle.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5–7 years of experience leading land acquisition campaigns, with at least 5 years focused on renewables (solar, wind, or battery storage).
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Strong understanding of real estate matters, including experience negotiating land contracts, leases, and easements.
  • Familiarity with RTOs/ISOs across the country (e.g., MISO, PJM, ERCOT, etc.).
  • Proficiency in GIS tools; experience with Anderson Optimization or PV Case strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills—comfortable making cold calls, hosting presentations, and addressing diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt communication style and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-starter with strong problem-solving skills, capable of working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office; ability to maintain records and produce weekly project reports.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% domestically.
