Job description

SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for the management of the optimal flow of parts from receiving to line side consumption. Candidate requires leadership skills and experience in a fast pace multi-task environment. Directs the activities of materials associates involved in the receiving, stocking, picking and timely movements within the entire campus. A shop-floor based position that requires the constant drive for improvement in all areas of material handling including compliance of documented policies and procedures. The person shall provide leadership and change management skills to move the culture and team to the highest level of performance.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Purposefully and consistently conduct themselves within the structure of the guiding principles and mission statement of Spartan Motors, Inc.

Lead all Material Distribution and/or Material Handling Team Leads and Associates

To communicate effectively with all team members including cross-functional teams, internal customers and with external suppliers

Support and train team members to understand & consistently apply the principle of Plan For Every Part

Team leadership to include outlining clear expectations for Team Leads and team members and consistently addressing holding individuals accountable.

Collaborate with manufacturing engineering to enable optimal delivery routes and the visual management systems required to support assembly processes

Maintain a working knowledge of all operating systems pertaining to the materials and manufacturing

Plan with IST to integrate systems required to optimize the use of MRP information that improves material flow.

Reduce waste of man, machine and method to ensure best practices.

Establishes and maintains department standards for productivity, reliability, and accuracy.

Improve policies, procedures & processes to be standard practices for all team members and to record in EBS data base.

Build strong relationships with the operations and engineering teams to ensure smooth handoff processes.

Stay attuned to customer requirements/changes to support assembly

Maintain and develop with team methodologies to quickly implement corrective actions when there is a failure in the flow of materials.

Maintains a high degree of visibility and access to associates throughout the work day.

Execution of safety requirements including all required safety training for all direct reports.

Manage team member activities including, but not limited to, vacation approvals, time card approvals, daily and weekly overtime, hiring, and training.

Leads all inventory activities; including validation, settlement, and inventory reconciliation.

Lead and manage physical inventory and cycle counting activities

Consistently maintain accurate inventory levels

Passionately support safety, 5S and continuous improvement projects.

Manage equipment and fleet activities - justify the correct fleet size for the business

Support inbound freight and logistics support

Performs other duties as assigned by Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Four year degree preferred

Five years materials leadership in complex materials environment

Ongoing commitment to drive improvements to a high standard of excellence

Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong, problem-solving, and analytical skills

Demonstrated project management skills

Acute attention to detail with a passion for 100% accuracy

Proficient on ERP/MRP, MS Office and PC network applications

Strong materials team member with ability to be creative and drive new innovation processes
