Description of Role

This Associate Manufacturing Engineering role lives in the Manufacturing organization at Dephy, reporting directly to the Head of Manufacturing. This Dephyer can expect to interface with Design Engineering, Test Engineering, and our technician team in various capacities. This detail-oriented candidate can expect to be hands-on building Dephy products and following, editing, and writing processes. They are responsible for repairing units returned from the field, collecting data on failure causes (RCA) and suggesting and implementing DFM/DFA or QA preventative measures. They will collect and communicate metrics such as yields, failure rates, and cycle times early and often. 

What you'll do:

  • Build and troubleshoot Dephy products by following existing Work Instructions
  • Follow and refine processes that ensure all customer products meet our internal performance, quality, and reliability goals
  • Drive measurable reliability improvements through detailed Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and other forms of failure analysis, driving effective resolution of design, product, and/or manufacturing issues.
  • Maintain process documentation, including Work Instructions, FMEAs, RCAs, audit preparation materials, and quality records.
  • Efficiently organize units for field returns, collecting, analyzing, and sharing failure trends cross-functionally to drive down repair costs.
  • Execute performance reliability testing, including design of experiments (DOE), design and build of test fixtures, and any other supplemental testing equipment
  • General Manufacturing duties such as building products, production floor and inventory management, and order fulfillment
  • Other duties as needed

Requirements

Required Qualifications 

  • Be a good human-get along with the team, build strong working relationships, and execute on Dephy's Values.
  • 0-2 years of experience in mechanical, manufacturing, or mechatronics engineering
  • Excellent working knowledge of mechanical assembly
    • Excellent hands-on mechanical assembly skills
    • Ability to execute detailed work instructions and propose impactful changes to existing processes
  • Hands-on experience in consumer electronics and/or hardware systems involving integrated mechanical, electrical, and software
  • Exposure to Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and driving issue resolution
  • Strong cross-functional communication, organizational, and collaboration skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience utilizing test setups & fixtures for quality, validation, or reliability testing
  • Understanding of DFx (Design for Manufacturing, Assembly, Reliability, etc.)
  • Experience with data analysis tools (ex. JMP, Minitab, etc.)
  • Exposure to Design of Experiments (DOE)

Hands-on Assessment

As part of the interview process, you'll be asked to examine one of our robotic systems and complete a few practical exercises, including mechanical tasks and a basic electrical test on our Production Floor with our Head of Manufacturing. 

You will be asked to use a multimeter (DMM) to measure the resistance of components, complete a mechanical inspection, perform electromechanical troubleshooting by setting up a test and following work instructions, and complete a subassembly according to work instructions, including the correct use of a torque screwdriver.
