AWHS Medical Receptionist Job Description
Job Summary:
Medical Receptionist plays a key role in creating a welcoming and positive experience for every patient. This position is responsible for greeting patients, managing front desk operations, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, and providing administrative support to help ensure a smooth and efficient office experience for both patients and providers.
Reports to:
  • Front Office Team Lead
  • Practice Administrator

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Greet and check in patients while verifying demographics, insurance, and identification.
  • Answer and direct incoming phone calls professionally.
  • Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments.
  • Process patient payments and answer basic billing and insurance questions.
  • Maintain accurate patient records by scanning and updating documentation in the EMR.
  • Perform general administrative duties including mail distribution, document preparation, and other front office support

Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of medical office procedures, administrative practices, and medical terminology.
  • Working knowledge of patient accounts, insurance processes, and EMR systems (Epic preferred).
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with a patient-focused approach.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree or higher preferred.
  • 2-3 years of previous administrative and clerical medical office experience.
  • Experience using Epic preferred.
  • Experience operating office equipment.
  • Experience in customer service field.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer in a stationary position. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for a prolonged period of time.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, computer printer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times and transport up to 25 pounds at a time short distances.
  • Must communicate and comprehend effectively
  • Potential stress if dealing with multiple tasks and staff members.
