Job description


1. Education: High School graduation or the equivalent.

2. Training and Experience: Must be able to read and use simple math skills. Previous experience as clerk or nurses aide is helpful, but not required. Must be accurate in spelling; clear and legible handwriting is necessary. Previous experience in typing or computer skills is helpful, but not required. Must be willing to go through computer classes/training if necessary.

3. Job Knowledge: Has a working knowledge of the nonclinical tasks required in the daily

operations of a nursing unit such as receptionist, telephone etiquette, and secretarial duties. Knowledge of medical terminology. Computer entry skills. Knowledge of patient confidentiality issues. Professional communication skills.

4. Safety Sensitive: YES

In the interest of protecting the health and safety of all patients, associates, and guests, Unity Health has classified some positions as “safety sensitive.” A “safety sensitive” position is any job position in which impaired performance could result in harm to the health and/or safety of self or others. DESCRIPTION:

The Behavioral Health Unit Coordinator is responsible for performing the nonclinical nursing tasks for a nursing unit; the receptionist role for a nursing unit, utilizing discretion and protecting the confidentiality of patient information at all times. The Behavioral Health Unit Coordinator efficiently utilizes the supplies and equipment on a nursing unit to facilitate the timely and effective delivery of patient services.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Maintains good physical and emotional well being. Job responsibilities require a considerable amount of physical work. The individual will be required to assist in moving equipment such as charts, carts, wheelchairs, and other equipment; and lifting or pushing up to 50 pounds. The individual must be able to bend over to perform certain duties, e.g., open file drawers, pick up supplies, reload copy machines, etc. The individual must also be able to maneuver throughout the halls, stairways, and patient rooms in response to hospital emergencies. A significant amount of writing and computer entry is required. Trips to various departments will be required.
