Job Responsibilities
Lead Instructor for the SC STARBASE Swamp Fox Program. Responsible for proficiently teaching and oversight of the instruction of all Department of Defense (DoD) STARBASE curriculum to participating 5th grade students, ensuring strict alignment and adherence to the DoD STARBASE Standards, Objectives and Activities (SOA). Assists in maintaining classroom discipline and establishing positive rapport with the students and visiting teachers, parents and administrators. Contributes to ongoing curriculum and professional development efforts to improve the Program.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Education or a STEAM related field, and work experience that is directly related to education or a STEAM related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Former experience as an elementary or middle school teacher and/or administrator. Has managerial or leadership experience. Is a current or former SC Department of Education certified teacher or holds equal certification credentials from other states. Aptitude and/or licensed in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Design and Math (STEAM), and in developing lessons/curriculum. An active, retired or former member of the South Carolina Air or Army National Guard.
Additional Comments
Knowledge of STEAM curriculum and principles. Ability to plan, organize and direct others to implement program goals. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, students, school teachers and administrators. Criminal history background checks are required for all individuals involved with the provision of C&Y services and programs who have regular contact with children under the age of 18. Employee must complete a DD Form 2981, "Basic Criminal History and Statement of Admission (Department of Defense Child and Youth (C&Y) Programs)." Reports directly to and works under the general supervision of the Deputy Director. Is encouraged to use own initiative in accomplishing tasks and duties while implementing the oversight and instruction of all DoD STARBASE lessons at the Basic and Advanced level. Position may require out-of-town training and occasional travel with advance notice. Must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time and be physically capable of setting up and conducting or monitoring classroom sessions and performing administrative duties associated with this position. Must be available for community outreach events outside of regular work hours. A resume will not be accepted in lieu of an online South Carolina State Employment Application.
