Job description

Supports the identification, development and implementation of business opportunities for advancing the Clean Technologies group and the Gas Business Unit in all areas of gas decarbonization and clean technologies. The role will involve researching and vetting various decarbonization and clean gas technologies opportunities. Will assist in assessing and building the business case for opportunities to pursue in either pilot or project form based upon agreed upon metrics with the Manager of Clean Technologies and other key internal stakeholders. Such metrics may include market conditions, customer desire/appetite, technology maturity and availability, cost, core business synergies, environmental value, and overall corporate risk profile. Will coordinate with both electric and gas business units, as well as other Eversource organizations, to assist with comprehensive planning for opportunities. The role will also involve providing support on the future of natural gas to internal groups for shareholder and investor messaging, regulatory filing support, and external stakeholder discussions. Will be expected to work collaboratively with the Clean Technologies organization to advance the gas business unit and company goals on the future of gas.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains familiarity with current and upcoming decarbonization technologies through market research.
  • Supports on developing business plans, including financial analysis and resource requirements to support proposed program initiatives. Presents plans to senior management for approval.
  • Supports the implementation of initiatives related to clean technologies projects and business development.
  • Supports in monitoring and tracking results of program activities and provides recommendations for modification/corrections as necessary.
  • Sets goals and develops strategies and schedules for meeting these goals, while anticipating obstacles and developing alternative strategies accordingly. Works in concert with all required functions to ensure timely and sound decisions, even under conditions of risk and uncertainty.
  • Assists in performing financial, economic and policy analysis to evaluate the implications of opportunities for new and existing programs.
  • Interfaces with other areas across Thermal Solutions and corporate functions during program development and implementation (i.e., Enterprise Planning, Operations, Regulatory, Legal, Governmental Affairs, Communications, etc.)
  • Investigates opportunities to combine and leverage new and existing programs.
  • Communicates and coordinate effectively with the gas organization, Eversource departments and outside agencies to build and maintain good working relationships to promote program initiatives and achieve successful results.
  • Assists in special bids in conjunction with other departments (i.e., Procurement) to secure the appropriate consultants for concepts and technologies. Assists in developing project scope, reviewing bids and making recommendations to the Manager regarding the selection of contractors.
  • Supports the coordination with electric business unit to identify strategic locations to deploy concepts or technologies.
  • Supports the team by interacting with Regulatory Affairs, Rates, Environmental Affairs, and Energy Efficiency to develop concept plans as needed.
  • Assists in development of any support or filings that are required for any regulator (MA Department of Public Utilities/ CT PURA) and other regulatory agencies.
  • Represents Eversource Gas at public meetings, regulatory hearings, town hall meetings and any special meetings that may occur.
  • Assists as needed for any stakeholder outreach meetings and discussions on concepts and technologies.
  • Engagement with internal stakeholders to solicit input and involvement as needed and to provide education on concepts and technologies.
  • Ensures that all concepts and technologies are vetted in a manner consistent with the Company's safety and procurement policies and programs.
  • Interfaces with internal customers and outside organizations and agencies both during and outside of normal business hours. May involve occasional travel.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in technical or business discipline or equivalent experience may be considered.

Experience:

  • Zero (0) to three (3) years of experience in economic analysis, project management/ business development is required.
  • Previous project management experience required.
  • Knowledge of geothermal, hydrogen, methane reduction and other clean gas technologies preferred.
  • Knowledge of electric and gas distribution systems preferred.
  • Project management experience is aplus.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Must have a valid driver's license

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
