Job Description Summary
Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio, is seeking a Tenure-Track faculty member for the Electromechanical Engineering Technology program in the Department of Engineering Technologies at SSU. The Electromechanical program at Shawnee is currently an associate degree program, and some of the course work also services some other majors and minors in the Department of Engineering Technology. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of a new bachelor's degree program. The university is investing in growth in the Electromechanical program through the new Shawnee Advanced Manufacturing Center that is expected to open in Fall 2026.
Duties of the position include:
- Instructing undergraduate courses and hands-on labs in the Electromechanical program. Areas of instruction may include some of the following:
- Fluid Power
- Electronics
- Automation and Robotics
- Electromechanical Systems
- Electrical Fundamentals
- Participating in curriculum and program advancement activities, such as:
- Contributing to assessment and accreditation efforts, including incorporation of outcome assessments and corresponding improvements into curriculum
- Staying current with industry trends and refining curriculum to maintain/improve alignment with industry needs
- Engaging with students in and out of the classroom in co-curricular activities. Opportunities include:
- Representing SSU with industry partners and organizations
- Advising and mentoring students applying for jobs/internships
- Mentoring student club(s)
- Engaging with prospective students
- Engaging in professional development, service and scholarly activities such as:
- Taking courses and attending workshops
- Undertaking inter-disciplinary research and projects with fellow SSU faculty
- Committee service
- Advising students in the major

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree or terminal degree in a related discipline to teaching specialization (e.g., Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Engineering Technology, or closely related area) from a regionally accredited institution
- Three (3) years of full-time teaching experience at a regionally accredited institution or five (5) years of professional experience in the area of specialization (in the field of Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology, or closely related area)
- Demonstrable skills in oral and written communication in the English language
- Experience that indicates the ability to instruct "hands-on" labs in Electromechanical Engineering Technology
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant United States teaching experience
- Experience in supporting ABET accreditation for undergraduate programs
- P.E. registration and/or industry-recognized certifications such as FANUC, Rockwell Automation, etc.
