Primary Purpose:

Teaches in the entry-level program, transition DPT program, and the PhD PT program. Implements a scholarly agenda, and provides service to the Department, the College, the University, the Professional Association, and the community at large, as indicated.

Essential Job Functions: 

1. Teaches undergraduate or graduate course(s) in the classroom and online as assigned.
2. Selects teaching and evaluation strategies appropriate to the students and setting.
3. Presents ideas clearly.
4. Creates a climate that is conducive to learning.
5. Provides and maintains a reliable schedule of office hours for student advising, tutoring, remediation and consultation.
6. Participates in department and college-wide committees and meetings.
7. Engages in curriculum development related to current and new courses.
8. Maintains a personal professional development plan, which may include a record of scholarly activity such as research and/or other creative activities, to assure growth and currency within the academic field.
9. Displays behavior consistent with professional ethics.
10. Manages subordinates in the classroom or laboratory.
11. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the University's policies and applicable laws.
12. Participates in state and/or local community service that is a recognized from a career development.
13. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Requirements: Appointment to the rank of professor requires a record of distinguished scholarship and outstanding teaching ability, evidenced by recognized professional productivity in the field(s) of specialization.
Appointment to the rank of associate professor normally requires a record of substantial success in teaching, scholarship, and service.
Appointment to the rank of assistant professor requires completion of professional training, which in most disciplines will be a terminal degree (usually the earned doctorate),and the clear promise of a successful career in teaching, scholarship, and service. Instructors should possess the master's degree (or equivalent).
Instructors are appointed to one-year appointments, are subject to 90 days' notice of renewal or non-renewal and are not on a continuing contract track.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 1. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals.
2. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
3. Ability to effectively present information to student, public groups, or professional organization.
4. Ability to work with appropriate mathematical concepts specific to the particular discipline.
5. Ability to apply concepts to practical situations.
6. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
7. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables simultaneously.
8. Ability to teach within distance education programs for the Department of Physical Therapy.

Required Certifications/Licensures: Obtain State of Florida licensure within three (3) months of hire.

Required Education: Doctoral Degree

Major (if required: Physical Therapy

Required Experience: 1. Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree OR a Physical Therapy degree with an advanced academic degree (IE: Phd, EdD, ScD, DHS, etc.)
2. Three (3) years of related experience (PT) and/or teaching.

Preferred Qualifications: 

1. Doctoral Degree (PhD, EdD, DPT, ScD, or equivalent) in an appropriate area of specialization. Must be obtained within five (5) years of employment
2. ABPTS specialization.
