Job Duties

VMI invites applications for one full-time tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Management position, with an expected start date of August 2026. The primary responsibility for this faculty member will be to teach Principles of Management and upper-level Management electives.
Responsibilities:
Teach courses in Management and the various sub-domains of Management.
Teaching load is 3/3 (tenure track) in traditional classrooms only.
Conduct research and publish in quality journals in accordance with departmental standards.
School/university-level service is required.
Other duties include advising and mentoring students and participating in student development.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and management skills are also required.
Ability to collaborate with other Department of Economics and Business faculty in research and teaching.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Requirements:
Ph.D. in Business Administration, Management, or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate hours in Management from an AACSB-accredited Business School. ABD candidates with a clear completion timeline will be considered.

Additional Considerations

Experience and qualifications for teaching in a secondary area, such as Marketing, Management Information Systems, or Supply Chain Management is helpful.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to a growing department in a welcoming collegiate environment that values innovative education. Class sizes typically range from 10 - 25 students, which allows instructors to be creative with course delivery and for students to receive more individual attention. VMI is a public, four-year, undergraduate military college of approximately 1,500 students located in the historic Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and is conveniently located to Richmond, Washington DC, Lynchburg, and Roanoke. About half of VMI's graduates accept a commission as an officer in the armed forces upon graduation. Teaching excellence in a liberal arts setting is our first priority. Tenure-track faculty members who are U.S. citizens wear uniforms and adhere to military customs, but military experience among the faculty is neither required nor expected.
