Job description

SUMMARY
The Product Engineer I focuses on the development, implementation, and improvement of all products, new and existing, that are manufactured by Hapco. The Product Engineer I will utilize sound engineering practices when designing, evaluating, and resolving issues related to products, new and existing. The Product Engineer I should establish and maintain strong working relationships with both internal and external customers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Learn existing product lines and assist the Design Engineering group with project reviews as needed
• Prepare detailed drawings, using AutoDesk programs (AutoCAD, Inventor, etc.), while maintaining established practices and techniques for drafting, design, and production standards
• Perform engineering calculations to assist and justify design decisions; emphasis on structural load, stress/strain, and kinetic calculations; Both hand calculations and FEA may be required
• Conduct physical testing of products, such as static load tests, vibratory tests, and impact tests
• Utilize a variety of computer software for daily tasks, such as AutoDesk programs, Microsoft Excel, PTC MathCAD Prime, and Manufactured Resource Planning (MRP) systems
• Review projects and products with cross-functional teams
• Obtain a working understanding of codes and design standards that are applicable to Hapco products, such as the AASHTO SLTS and LRFDLTS, NAAMM, ADM, AWS D1.1 and D1.2, and ANSI C136 standards
• Ensure products and designs are compliant with applicable codes and design standards
• Interpret and implement complex plans, concepts, and specifications into Hapco product design and workflow
• Work effectively, both independently and in groups, with minimal supervision
• Follow verbal and written instructions with minimal supervision
• Multi-task and continually prioritize tasks to be completed throughout each day
• Train and assist co-workers and external customers with product knowledge
• Occasional travel for business purposes will be required. Travel could include customer meetings, industry meetings, field issue analysis, etc.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
A minimum of an Associates degree in Engineering Technology with at least (1) year of working experience is required for the Product Engineer I position. A Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering is preferred and waives the experience requirement.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must possess the ability to communicate effectively one-on-one or in group situations with customers, industry groups, and co-workers, utilizing methods to include, but not limited to, verbal presentations or conversations, plus telephone and email communications.
