National Grid is hiring a Associate Engineer (Electrical Planning and Design), Electrical Engineering for Massachusetts. This is a Hybrid Role - Must live within a commutable distance to Northboro, MA.
Job Purpose
Electric Transmission Engineering designs projects that improve the reliability of the high-voltage electric system for our customers. Our team has a process driven and self-directed culture; solving diverse technical challenges for large, complex, multi-year projects. We investigate new, innovative solutions for a wide variety of projects. We are proud of how we respond to emergency situations in-the-moment by supporting restoration efforts, and also develop standards and documentation for the next generation of engineers. Electric Transmission Engineering ensures safe and reliable transmission designs for customers and communities now and in the future.
Key Accountabilities
โ€ข Perform transmission line engineering and design work on various projects including new transmission lines, refurbishments, and reconductoring projects.
โ€ข Conduct field inspections, determine cost effective solutions, and develop comprehensive engineering reports based on applicable design codes, engineering procedures, and sound safety practices.
โ€ข Conduct engineering studies, analysis, and investigations in order to recommend corrective action or to prevent future problems.
โ€ข Specify, order, and coordinate material delivery. Review vendor calculations and fabrication drawings.
โ€ข Support Environmental and other permitting efforts.
โ€ข Prepare project specifications, and develop procedures and technical documents.
โ€ข Collaborate with diverse project teams to deliver projects on time, within scope, and on budget.
โ€ข Proactively build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders in order to obtain and share information that will benefit National Grid and our customers.
โ€ข Provide technical guidance and support to less experienced engineers.
โ€ข Investigate the adoption of new and innovative technologies.
Qualifications
โ€ข A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering school.
โ€ข Engineer in Training Certificate (EIT) is desirable.
โ€ข Experience with transmission design software including: PLS CADD, PLS POLE, and/or MFAD.
โ€ข Familiarity with engineering and design software such as AutoCAD
โ€ข Familiarity with industry standards, safety standards, and current design codes, especially the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).
โ€ข Proficient Microsoft Office computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
โ€ข Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
โ€ข Excellent problem solving skills
โ€ข Excellent time management and attention to detail
โ€ข Ability to work independently
โ€ข Knowledge of National Grid's business operations
