Job description

Manufacturing Engineer

The Manufacturing Engineer (ME) is responsible for ongoing support and continuousimprovement of the manufacturing process of high precision sealing componentsmade at Magnetic Seal, LLC. (MagSeal) in Warren, RI. From prototype development through production, the ManufacturingEngineer works collaboratively with all business functions to ensure qualityproduct is delivered on time to meet our customers’ demanding sealing needs.

The ME will lead projects aimed at improving process efficiency, capacity, andsustainability of existing processes. This includes specifying new technologyand supporting the capital expenditure process.

Today Ducommun is a global provider of innovative manufacturing solutions for customers in the aerospace, defense and industrial markets. We specialize in electronic and structural systems, producing complex products and components for commercial aircraft platforms, mission-critical military and space programs, and sophisticated industrial applications.

Our Facility in Warren, RI is responsible for engineering and manufacturing some of the world’s most advanced sealing solutions.

Essential Functions:
  • Support existing manufacturing processes and associated technology.
  • Create or modify Engineering Masters and routers utilizing the manufacturing ERP system.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects in the manufacturing process.
  • Follow in house manufacturing and engineering processes and assist in the creation and improvement of companywide process documentation and instructions.
  • Recommend & implement process changes in support of internal & external customer(s).
  • Identify and implement new technology to drive process improvements and increase manufacturing capacity.
  • Develop and properly document new manufacturing processes and/or process changes via Process Change Notice (PCN) system.
  • Support strategic outsourcing of manufacturing operations as deemed necessary by production demand.
  • Create and oversee preventative maintenance (PM) procedures and regulatory inspections as required.
  • Calculate manufacturing costs of new and existing product.
  • Support Environmental, Health, and Safety initiatives throughout the organization.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate service calls if necessary.
  • Responsible for storing and handling all Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) appropriately to prevent unauthorized access, dissemination, or use of this information or documentation.
  • Support all visitor and security policies to protect ITAR/EAR/CMMC/CUI information, documents, product, etc. from unauthorized access by informing management immediately of any concerns.
  • Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in employee’s work area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Regular and acceptable attendance is an essential function of this job.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Experience with precision machining processes such as turning, milling, grinding (surface/ID/OD) and lapping processes.
  • Experience creating 3D models and drawings in SolidWorks CAD is highly preferred.
  • Experience working with CAM software such as SolidWorks CAM or Mastercam is preferred.
  • Proficient in a variety of manufacturing concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Working experience with machine mechanics and/or electronics.
  • Computer skills to include all Microsoft office applications, project/time management software such as Outlook for effective time management.
  • Familiarity with a wide variety of machine tools, measuring tools, hand tools, and specialty tools.
  • Knowledge of AS9100 and ITAR regulations is preferred.
  • Must be a US citizen or a US permanent resident.
  • Local to the Rhode Island facility
Required Experience and Education:

Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering or related technical degree with 2-5 years relevant experience or an associate’s degree in manufacturing engineering or equivalent degree with 5-10 years relevant experience.

Physical Requirements:
  • Able to stand, walk and sit frequently.
  • Able to bend, squat and kneel occasionally.
  • Able to use fine manipulation continuously.
  • Able to reach outward occasionally and reach above shoulder occasionally.
  • Able to read and write in English.
  • Able to push/pull and lift/carry up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Visual Acuity – Able to see close detail, distance and colors constantly.
  • May come into contact with chemicals.
Work Environment and Safety Equipment Required:
  • Manufacturing Shop environment with open floor space, can be noisy at times, and is climate controlled.
  • Able to work onsite per business needs and per employee’s standard hours.
  • Able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment constantly.

This position requires access toexport-controlled information and/or hardware, and candidates must be U.S.Persons that comply with all U.S. Export control laws and regulation. As such,U.S. citizenship, U.S. lawful permanent resident status, protected personstatus under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or the ability to meet ITAR and EARrequirements is required.

Depending on the candidate’s skills,qualifications and experience, they will be hired into an entry (I) level or intermediate(II) level job.
