Job description

The Opportunity

We are conducting a confidential search for an innovative advanced energy technology company seeking a Senior Project Controls Engineer to lead planning, scheduling, cost engineering, forecasting, and performance reporting for complex, first-of-a-kind technical programs.

Initially reporting to the COO, this highly visible role will work closely with senior leaders across engineering, manufacturing, testing, quality, supply chain, licensing, safety, security, and operations. You will translate ambitious technical objectives into executable plans, provide objective insight into program performance, and help establish the project controls foundation for a growing Program Management Office.

What You’ll Do

Planning and Scheduling

  • Develop and maintain integrated master schedules for complex technical development programs.
  • Build detailed, resource-loaded schedules using Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
  • Establish schedule logic, milestones, critical paths, coding structures, and performance metrics.
  • Partner with engineering and functional leaders to translate strategic objectives into realistic execution plans.
  • Prepare schedules and supporting analysis for executive and external stakeholder reviews.

Cost Engineering and Forecasting

  • Develop bottom-up cost estimates for engineering development, prototype, and future production programs.
  • Create and maintain cost models for advanced energy and power-system development activities.
  • Establish scalable cost-estimating methodologies.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, resource planning, and broader financial planning.
  • Track actual costs against plan, identify emerging trends, and communicate potential impacts.

Program Controls and Reporting

  • Establish project performance-measurement systems.
  • Track progress against schedule, budget, and technical milestones.
  • Produce clear project status reports, executive dashboards, and decision-ready insights.
  • Identify schedule and cost risks and recommend practical mitigation strategies.
  • Support recovery planning and disciplined change management.
  • Apply earned value management methodology where appropriate.

PMO Development

  • Help establish scheduling, estimating, reporting, and project-controls standards.
  • Develop work breakdown structures, schedule coding structures, and repeatable procedures.
  • Support the implementation of project metrics, change-control processes, and earned value practices.
  • Create a project-controls framework that provides structure without unnecessary bureaucracy.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, industrial engineering, project management, or a related technical discipline.
  • At least seven years of project controls experience supporting large, complex technical or industrial programs.
  • Demonstrated experience developing integrated master schedules and resource-loaded project plans.
  • Hands-on experience preparing bottom-up cost estimates.
  • Proficiency with Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication abilities.
  • Confidence working directly with senior technical and operational leaders.

Preferred Experience

  • Background in nuclear, aerospace, defense, energy, semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, or another highly regulated industry.
  • Experience supporting first-of-a-kind product development or engineering programs.
  • Knowledge of earned value management systems.
  • Experience creating executive dashboards in Power BI or a similar platform.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing startup or scale-up programs.
  • PMP, Planning & Scheduling Professional (PSP), or Earned Value Professional (EVP) certification.

Who Will Thrive in This Role

The ideal candidate enjoys bringing clarity and structure to ambiguous challenges. You are proactive, highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable challenging assumptions with objective data. You balance discipline with pragmatism and can operate effectively in a fast-moving, technically complex environment.

Location and Relocation Requirement

This position is onsite in the West Palm Beach metro area. Candidates who do not currently live within commuting distance must be willing to relocate. This is not a remote or hybrid opportunity.

If you have hands-on experience owning integrated schedules, cost controls, forecasting, and performance reporting for complex technical programs, we welcome a confidential conversation.
