Job Description

General Purpose of Job: Evaluate patients, plan treatment programs and perform therapy to restore function, prevent disability and maximize potential and quality of life in the areas of speech, language, swallowing, feeding, cognition, and oral motor performance. Promote health and well-being of the patients served following disease, dysfunction, injury, or surgery.

Essential Duties:

  • Evaluate, assess, and plan appropriate treatment of patient upon referral, and establish reasonable goals with the patient and/or family.
  • Educate the patient and/or caregivers about findings of the evaluation, co-established goals, method of treatment, and the results of treatment. Instructs patients and/or family members in home programs.
  • Perform treatments according to the established plan, utilizing all available equipment and techniques. Prepare treatment plans and schedule patient to provide for individual patient needs within the scope of speech/language pathology.
  • Document in the medical record according to established criteria.
  • Re-evaluate patients, assess progress, and revise goals to help patients reach their full potential. Make recommendations as to discharge planning.
  • Serves as a role model for consistent demonstration of Sparrow Health Systems Customer Service Behavioral Standards of Performance, by respecting the Privacy and Confidentiality of those we serve.
  • Communicate with other health care professionals, including patient referral sources, verbally and in writing.
  • Participate in in-services, staff meetings, team meetings, continuing education courses, patient conferences, and other meetings as needed.
  • Lead or direct the activities of Rehab Aides, students and volunteers, ensuring that department policies and procedures are upheld and that quality patient care is provided.

Job Requirements

• BLS certification • Preferred- Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech/Language Pathology from American Speech-Language-Hearing Association or eligible for clinical fellowship year.

• Preferred- Pediatric Rehab experience

• Master's Degree in Speech/Language Pathology from an accredited program in Speech/Language Pathology.

• Basic clinical skills providing speech/language pathology services. • Effective written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, ability to perform multiple tasks and adapt to changing work situations
