Job description

This is a full-time, on-site position based in Worcester, MA, with travel to other Family Health Center of Worcester sites as needed.

Position Summary:

We are looking for a skilled and dependable Network Administrator to join our small, collaborative IT team. In this role, you will take ownership of the design, administration, and day-to-day health of our network infrastructure across 10 locations. You will be a key resource in ensuring that our staff can reliably access the systems they depend on, including our hosted Epic EHR platform, so they can stay focused on delivering care to our patients.

This is a hands-on position that requires comfort working across a mixed-vendor environment, strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical colleagues, and a genuine commitment to the communities we serve.

Key Responsibilities:

Network Infrastructure

  • Administer and maintain LAN, WAN, and VPN connectivity across all organization sites.
  • Monitor network performance and uptime; proactively identify and resolve issues before they affect clinical operations.
  • Manage network configurations, IP address schemes (DNS, DHCP), and routing across a multi-site environment.
  • Ensure consistent, low-latency connectivity to our hosted Epic EHR and other cloud-based clinical systems.
  • Support and maintain infrastructure including managed switches, routers, firewalls, and cabling across locations.

Security & Compliance

  • Manage firewalls and enforce security policies in accordance with HIPAA and HITECH requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate network segmentation to protect electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI).
  • Monitor security events and assist with vulnerability remediation and risk assessments.
  • Keep network access controls current and aligned with organizational policies.

Wireless & VoIP

  • Manage and maintain wireless infrastructure across all sites, ensuring reliable coverage in clinical and administrative areas.
  • Support and troubleshoot VoIP and unified communications systems in coordination with vendors and staff.

Vendor, ISP & Team Support

  • Manage relationships with ISPs and network vendors; coordinate on service requests, outages, and contract renewals.
  • Act as a Tier 2/3 escalation point for network-related issues submitted through the help desk.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date network documentation including topology diagrams, device inventories, and configurations.
  • Collaborate with IT teammates on infrastructure projects, technology assessments, and system upgrades.
  • Be available for occasional after-hours or weekend work to support planned maintenance windows or urgent incidents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience as a Network Administrator or in an equivalent role.
  • Strong working knowledge of core networking: TCP/IP, VLANs, VPN, DNS, DHCP, routing protocols, and SNMP.
  • Experience managing firewalls, managed switches, routers, and wireless access points across multiple sites.
  • Comfortable working in mixed-vendor environments and adapting to different platforms and toolsets.
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA security requirements as they apply to network infrastructure.
  • Strong troubleshooting ability; able to diagnose and resolve complex issues calmly and efficiently.
  • Clear communicator who can explain technical concepts to clinical and administrative staff without jargon.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Network Administration, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting a hosted EHR environment; Epic familiarity is a plus.
  • Experience with Meraki and Aruba network stacks is preferred.
  • Prior experience working in a healthcare, hospital, or multi-site clinical setting.
  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CCNA, or equivalent are preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with cloud networking concepts or hybrid network environments.
  • Exposure to SD-WAN, network access control (NAC), or zero-trust architecture principles.
  • Experience with ITSM or ticketing platforms and strong habits around IT documentation.
