Role Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented Linguist with strong expertise in English grammar and sentence structure to support a short-term (2-3 week) project focused on AI model evaluation.

In this role, you will interpret sentences from source content and extract clear, minimally complete, and non-ambiguous claims (propositions). You will also analyze and visually represent sentence structure using diagramming techniques to ensure precision and clarity.

This work plays a critical role in improving how AI systems understand and process human language, making accuracy, consistency, and strong analytical thinking essential.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform core project tasks following established guidelines and workflows.
  • Perform periodic quality reviews to ensure labeling compliance with guidelines and address any areas of confusion.
  • Facilitate Q&A sessions with annotators and reviewers.
  • Collaborate with project leaders and data managers on labeling quality metrics.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in English Language, Literature, or Linguistics
  • Strong command of English grammar and syntax, including sentence structure, parts of speech, and clause relationships
  • Proven ability to analyze and diagram complex sentences
  • Experience extracting meaning from text with precision and resolving ambiguity
  • Ability to follow detailed annotation guidelines and maintain consistency at scale
  • High attention to detail and quality standards
  • Comfort working within structured, rubric-based tasks


Preferred:

  • Experience in linguistic annotation, content analysis, or similar fields requiring precise text interpretation.
  • Familiarity with various types of phrases and clauses (e.g., prepositional, gerund, infinitive, independent, dependent) and their diagramming.
  • Other potential backgrounds could include Technical Writing, NLP Researcher, and linguistics.
  • Proficient in using the Google Drawing tool to create sentence diagrams.
