Required Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Infant/Toddler Child Development Associates (CDA) credential or willing to study and earn one
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree with a major in early childhood education, child development, or a closely related field, preferred
  • 1-3 years experience working with infants and toddlers, preferred
Essential Functions:
  1. Provide a safe, healthy, and well-managed environment to meet the changing needs of infants and toddlers.
  2. Maintain the health, wellness, and safety of a group of children in a center-based setting who are under 3 years of age; conduct health and safety checks of classroom and playground before childrens arrival; maintain classroom supplies in good repair, removing broken or unsafe items immediately and replacing as needed; actively supervise children at all times.
  3. Interact, play, and communicate with children in a calm, positive, and nurturing manner.
  4. Utilize positive discipline and guidance with children at all times.
  5. Responsible for the primary caregiving of up to four (4) children per EOAC EHS policy.
  6. Provide a nurturing environment where the child and parents feel comfortable and welcome.
  7. Greet parents and children pleasantly and appropriately, ensuring a positive home-center connection and a family partnership.
  8. Annually complete at least two (2) home visits and two (2) parent-teacher conferences with each childs family according to the program schedule
  9. Work with co-teacher to maintain ongoing professional and appropriate communication with parents through various methods (phone calls, Learning Genie, notes, informal conferences).
  10. Work with co-teacher to prepare parent/child take-home activities related to classroom curriculum.
  11. Encourage parents to participate in workshops, training, parent meetings, and other Head Start activities.
  12. Communicate professionally and clearly (verbal and written) with parents, staff, supervisors, and the community.
  13. Work with a positive and professional attitude and show respect to all.
  14. Able to effectively collaborate with co-teachers.
  15. Maintain ongoing professional development in early childhood education as required by regulations.
  16. Complete and maintain required program documentation, including but not limited to daily sign-in-out sheets for children, daily CACFP records, and In-Kind.
  17. Maintain confidentially of child and family information, sharing information for work-related purposes only. Follow EOAC Head Start 0-5 confidentiality policies at all times.
  18. Participates in all assigned center staff meetings, case management meetings, and Head Start program meetings.
  19. Reports to work consistently and on time.
  20. Comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS) and the Head Start Act, Texas Child Care Licensing, the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), local city regulations, and EOAC Head Start 0-5 Policies and Procedures.
  21. Mandatory reporter of suspected child abuse and neglect. Recognize indicators of possible abuse and neglect and follow appropriate reporting procedures.
  22. Other duties as assigned.
