Estate & Succession Planning Attorney

Location: Detroit, Ann Arbor, or Troy, MI

Type: Full-Time, Hybrid

Compensation: Flexible depending on experience, practice focus, and portable book of business

About the Opportunity

A well-established and highly respected Michigan-based law firm is seeking an Estate & Succession Planning Attorney to join its growing private client practice. This opportunity is ideal for a senior associate or experienced attorney with a strong foundation in estate planning, trust and estate administration, and business succession planning who is looking for long-term growth within a collaborative environment.

The firm is open to attorneys across multiple Michigan office locations, with the highest priority focused on Southeast Michigan. Attorneys in this practice work closely with high-net-worth individuals, families, business owners, and fiduciaries on sophisticated estate planning and wealth preservation matters. The practice offers substantial client interaction, meaningful responsibility, and the ability to build lasting client relationships.

This role provides the opportunity to work alongside experienced attorneys on complex planning matters while also developing and expanding your own practice over time. Probate litigation exposure is viewed favorably, particularly for candidates who can advise clients across both planning and administration-related disputes.

The firm values entrepreneurial attorneys who are interested in business development, succession-planning opportunities, and building a long-term future within a team-oriented culture. Portable books of business are welcomed but not required for the right candidate.

What You’ll Do

• Advise clients on estate planning, wealth transfer, and business succession strategies

• Draft wills, trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, irrevocable trusts, and related planning documents

• Counsel clients on estate, gift, GST, charitable, and income tax planning matters

• Assist with estate and trust administration, including probate-related filings and fiduciary guidance

• Prepare and oversee estate, fiduciary income, and gift tax return matters

• Attend probate hearings and support clients through administration proceedings

• Collaborate with attorneys across related practice areas to support clients with complex planning needs

• Develop and maintain strong long-term client relationships

• Participate in networking and business development activities

What You Bring

• 4+ years of experience in estate planning and succession planning matters

• Strong experience drafting sophisticated estate planning documents

• Knowledge of estate, gift, and fiduciary tax planning concepts

• Experience with estate and trust administration matters

• Probate litigation experience is a plus

• Excellent written, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills

• Strong organizational and project management abilities

• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment

• Michigan Bar admission, or ability to promptly become admitted in Michigan

• Interest in long-term practice growth and client relationship development

• Portable book of business is welcomed but not required

What’s Offered

• Unlimited PTO for Attorneys

• 401(k) with 3% employer contribution

• Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage

• Paid Parking

• Professional Dues

• Associate Attorney Student Loan Repayment Program

• Wellness Programs

• Hybrid flexibility

• Strong collaborative culture

• Long-term growth opportunities
