What is an associate IT support?

Associate IT Support roles are entry-level positions responsible for assisting with basic technical issues, troubleshooting hardware and software problems, and providing support to end-users within an organization. They often handle tasks like resetting passwords, installing software, setting up workstations, and responding to IT help desk tickets. These roles serve as a starting point for a career in information technology, offering valuable experience and exposure to a wide range of IT systems and processes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate IT support, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Associate IT Support, a solid understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, networking basics, and troubleshooting techniques is essential, often supported by a relevant degree or certification like CompTIA A+. Familiarity with ticketing systems, remote desktop tools, and common enterprise software is typically required. IT Support Specialist

Helsing

Washington, DC • On-site

Full-time

Medical, PTO

Posted 15 days ago

Job description

Who we are

Helsing develops artificial intelligence-enabled capabilities to protect and defend democracies. We are growing our US operations, cultivating an ambitious and committed team of mission-driven professionals to apply their skills to solve challenging problems.

The role

As we scale our US team in Washington, D.C., we are looking for an IT Support Specialist to ensure our daily operations run seamlessly. In this role, you will be the face of IT for our growing office-supporting our team directly so they can focus on delivering critical capabilities without technical friction.

This is not a passive or hands-off oversight role; we are looking for a true "do-er" who thrives on solving real-world problems in real time. You are highly proactive, deeply self-motivated, and take immense pride in owning the technology footprint of our office. Because we are scaling rapidly, this position offers significant room for professional growth as you help shape and expand our local IT infrastructure over time.

The day-to-day
  • User-Facing Support: Provide direct, hands-on IT support to our D.C. team, serving as the first point of contact for service desk requests and technical troubleshooting.
  • Device Management: Manage the lifecycle of our hardware fleet, including deploying, configuring, and maintaining Windows and macOS laptops and peripherals.
  • Office Infrastructure: Maintain and optimize standard office technology setups, including conference room, AV equipment, network printers, and localized connectivity.
  • SaaS Operations: Manage user access, licensing, and troubleshooting across our productivity suites, with a focus on Office 365 (O365).
  • On-Site Mobility: While you'll be based in D.C., you will occasionally travel to our operational and test facilities (such as our site in West Virginia) to set up and support localized IT environments.
You should apply if you
  • Driven & Proactive: You don't wait for tickets to pile up. You spot potential friction points before they become issues and take ownership of resolving them.
  • A Dynamic "Do-er": You love being in the details, working directly with people, and getting your hands on hardware rather than managing from a distance.
  • An Adaptable Technologist: You have solid foundational experience in IT support or service desk environments. You are comfortable navigating both Windows and macOS systems.
  • Resourceful with the Basics: You have a working familiarity with O365 admin tools and standard device setups. While familiarity with MDM tools (JAMF / Intune) is helpful, a deep specialization is not required.

Note: We encourage you to apply even if you don't meet all the listed qualifications; ability and impact cannot be summarized in a few bullet points.

Nice to Have
  • Prior experience working in the defense, national security, or government sector is a strong plus, though not a hard requirement.
  • Experience working with Mobile Device Management tools like Intune and Jamf.
  • Experience working with PowerShell or Python to automate workflows.
  • Experience working in a fast-growing startup or a high-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Willing to Travel: You are open and excited to occasionally travel to support regional facilities, specifically to our manufacturing facility.
Join Helsing and work with world-leading experts in their fields
  • Helsing's work is important. You'll be directly contributing to the protection of democratic countries while balancing both ethical and geopolitical concerns

  • The work is unique. We operate in a domain that has highly unusual technical requirements and constraints, and where robustness, safety, and ethical considerations are vital. You will face unique Engineering and AI challenges that make a meaningful impact in the world

  • Our work frequently takes us right up to the state of the art in technical innovation, be it reinforcement learning, distributed systems, generative AI, or deployment infrastructure. The defense industry is entering the most exciting phase of the technological development curve. Advances in our field of world are not incremental: Helsing is part of, and often leading, historic leaps forward

  • In our domain, success is a matter of order-of-magnitude improvements and novel capabilities. This means we take bets, aim high, and focus on big opportunities. Despite being a relatively young company, Helsing has already been selected for multiple significant government contracts

  • We actively encourage healthy, proactive, and diverse debate internally about what we do and how we choose to do it. Teams and individual engineers are trusted (and encouraged) to practice responsible autonomy and critical thinking, and to focus on outcomes, not conformity. At Helsing you will have a say in how we (and you!) work, the opportunity to engage on what does and doesn't work, and to take ownership of aspects of our culture that you care deeply about

What we offer
  • A focus on outcomes, not time-tracking

  • A generous compensation and benefits package (in addition to base salary) that includes, but may not be limited to, insurance coverage (medical and travel), flexible paid time off, paid holidays, and remote and/or hybrid work available depending on position. All compensation and benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of the underlying plans or programs, as applicable and as may be amended, terminated or superseded from time to time.

Helsing is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We will consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, protected veteran status, genetics, or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state, or local law.
