Position Summary:

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer within CIBC's US Infrastructure Planning and Engineering team, you'll be a critical contributor to the design, implementation, and optimization of the organization's hybrid infrastructure across on-premises Co-located data centers and Azure Cloud platforms, including Azure VMware Solution (AVS).

You will take a hands-on leadership role in infrastructure modernization, cloud adoption, automation, and lifecycle management of core systems. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams, guide junior engineers, and ensure infrastructure services are secure, scalable, and aligned with evolving business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Infrastructure Engineering & Operations

  • Design, implement, and manage VMware environments: vSphere, vCenter, VxRail, NSX-T, vSAN, Horizon, HCX, and VCF.

  • Build and support hybrid infrastructure leveraging Azure and AVS, enabling workload migration and optimization.

  • Manage the lifecycle of Windows Server and Linux (RHEL) images, including patching, hardening, and compliance.

  • Oversee US-region Active Directory services, including user account and GPO management (while core AD remains centralized).

  • Provide support for Exchange servers, SMTP relay services, and related infrastructure integrations.

  • Administer and optimize storage systems (EMC/Dell), backup and recovery processes (Commvault, Rubrik), and DR strategies.

  • Implement physical server technologies, virtualization, and associated hardware infrastructure.

Automation, DevOps & Monitoring

  • Lead automation initiatives using Terraform, Ansible, and scripting to streamline provisioning and reduce manual effort.

  • Support DevOps practices by integrating infrastructure automation into CI/CD pipelines.

  • Utilize monitoring and performance tools such as Dynatrace, VMware Aria Operations, Log Insight, and Network Insight.

Cloud Adoption & Innovation

  • Support and execute the strategic migration of workloads to Azure, including AVS-based solutions.

  • Collaborate with Product Owners and managers to align infrastructure roadmap with business goals.

  • Evaluate and recommend modern infrastructure technologies to improve resilience, efficiency, and security.

Leadership, Collaboration & Governance

  • Act as a technical leader, providing advisory input and hands-on mentorship to junior and peer engineers.

  • Work closely with Application Operations, End User Tech, Asset Management, and Security teams to deliver cohesive infrastructure solutions.

  • Participate in governance and audit initiatives, ensuring compliance with security standards, DR policies, and operational controls.

  • Document designs, runbooks, operational guides, and roadmaps to ensure clarity and knowledge sharing.

Required Experience & Skills:

  • 10+ years in infrastructure engineering and management, preferably with leadership or mentorship responsibilities.

  • Hands-on experience with:

    • VMware stack: vSphere, VCF, VxRail, NSX-T, Horizon, HCX, vSAN.

    • Cloud platforms: Azure, AVS, Azure DevOps.

    • Automation: Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell/Bash scripting.

    • Image lifecycle management: Windows Server and Linux RHEL.

    • Infrastructure tools: SCCM, Active Directory, Exchange, SQL.

    • Monitoring: Dynatrace, Aria Suite (vROps, Log Insight).

    • Backup/DR: Commvault, Rubrik, DR planning, and failover.

  • Familiarity with enterprise tools and frameworks such as ServiceNow, Confluence, and JIRA.

  • Strong working knowledge of IT standards, policies, compliance, and governance.

Preferred Certifications:

  • VMware VCP, Microsoft Azure Administrator/Architect, Terraform Associate, or equivalent.

  • AZ-900: Azure Fundamentals - An asset.

  • AI-900: Azure AI Fundamentals - An asset.

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $140,000 - $150,000 for the market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit's incentive compensation plan, which may also include a discretionary bonus component.
