Position Overview

The Division of Infectious Diseases at the Icahn School of Medicine is looking for a full-time Associate Hospital Epidemiologist and Infectious Diseases Physician. This role will focus on infection prevention, hospital epidemiology, and inpatient infectious diseases consultation services at our facilities. This faculty position provides a chance to engage in patient care, education, research, and quality enhancement within a collaborative academic health system.

Key Responsibilities

• Engage in the ID teaching service, mentoring fellows, residents, and medical and pharmacy students.
• Work alongside the Hospital Epidemiologist, Pediatric Hospital Epidemiologist, and Infection Prevention Director to develop, implement, educate, and assess Infection Prevention policies and practices.
• Oversee surveillance activities and investigations, acting as a liaison to regulatory bodies and public health officials at local, state, and national levels.
• Provide leadership and consultation to the Hospital Administration and medical, nursing, and other staff regarding Infection Prevention matters.
• Advance the Department's research initiatives and performance improvement efforts, participating in regional and national collaborations.
• Actively participate in and co-chair the Infection Prevention Committee.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on Infectious Diseases and Infection Prevention, focusing on patient and employee safety, quality, and emergency management from clinical, operational, regulatory, and administrative perspectives.
• Contribute to emergency preparedness and response planning, including incident command functions and facility responses to urgent situations.
• Collaborate with Employee Health Services on complex pre- and post-exposure management protocols and assist in planning vaccination campaigns.
• Work with the Clinical Laboratory on the appropriate use of laboratory tests, antibiotic susceptibility reports, and the assessment and implementation of new laboratory technologies related to Infection Prevention and Antimicrobial Stewardship.
• Collaborate with hospital epidemiologists and Infection Preventionists throughout the health system.
• Maintain regular and effective communication with Hospital Administration and leadership at the Unit and Institute levels.

Qualifications

• Medical Degree from an accredited institution.
• Valid New York Medical License.
• Board Certification in Infectious Diseases.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in adult Infectious Diseases, with a preference for experience in antimicrobial stewardship or infection prevention.
• At least 3 years of teaching experience in an academic environment.
• Strong interpersonal, teamwork, leadership, and communication skills are essential.
• Proficiency in PowerPoint, Word, and Excel is required.
• Experience with EPIC is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation for this position ranges from $250,000 to $400,000, excluding bonuses, incentive compensation, or benefits.

Actual salaries may vary based on factors such as experience, specialties, historical productivity, collections, and community needs. Therefore, the actual salary may be closer to either end of the range and, in some cases, may fall outside the listed range.
