Job description

Position Summary: 
The Family and Sports Program Director support the YMCA's mission of strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Reporting to the Associate Executive Director or Senior Program Director, this role oversees youth and adult sports, teen & enrichment programs. The Director leads programs that foster family connections, promote health, and create safe, enriching experiences aligned with the Y's core values and community needs.
Key Functions/Responsibilities: 
       Ensures programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed, in accordance with strategic and operating plans.  
       Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information. 
       Manages program rosters, enrollment and reporting. Evaluate program effectiveness.  
       Recruits and hire diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Train and develop staff and volunteers to meet programming goals and quality measures. Utilizes strategies to motivate, empower staff and achieve key objectives. 
       Models' relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships internally and externally to include community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility. 
       Develops and monitors the budgets to meet fiscal objectives. 
       Securing and scheduling the facilities needed; and creating and scheduling the classes, activities or events. 
       Provides direct service instruction/facilitation of 10-15 hours per week in programs. Secures appropriate staffing for programs and provides coverage when needed.  
       Collaborate with other center departments on programs and services as well as communication on upcoming activities.  
       Develops new programs, events, or services that meet the needs of the community and that are aligned with strategic goals of fostering core relationships between participants; Staff to caregiver / child, child to child, caregiver to caregiver, caregiver to child.  
       Ensures a variety of program offerings including but not limited to physical activity, arts, dance, sports and games, etc. for a wide range of age groups birth to 13 years old.  
       Welcomes current and new family members and provides support in aligning their needs with programs and services.
  • Participate in the Annual Campaign as a staff worker and sustaining member.
  • Oversee the administration and operation of programs serving children of all ages, youth, teens, and families at the center and off-site, to include developing and implementing policy and procedures, planning, promoting, implementing, hiring and training staff, risk management, evaluation, and budgeting.

  • Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of all  program areas to safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Teach/Coach youth and family programs as needed or directed.
  • Support center/department initiatives to membership retention and Annual Giving goals.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with members, staff, and community.
  • Interpret, communicate, and promote Y mission, goals, and objectives to employees, volunteer's leaders, members, and community.
  • Partner/collaborate with organizations whose mission is aligned with the Y to meet the needs of community children, youth, and families.
  • Develop and enhance off-site Y youth programming to improve access to Y programs and reach underserved populations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Evening, holidays and Weekend shifts are an expectation.
Education/Experience: 
       Bachelor's degree in human services / health sciences or related field. 
       Minimum 3 years' experience working with youth and families.
       Two years of experience supervising and developing staff and volunteer teams. 

       Demonstrated understanding of the developmental progression of skills of children and program development.
       Sports coaching experience preferred
       Previous experience operating sports leagues in a leadership role preferred. 

       Experience with creating, implementing, and evaluating Youth and Family Programming and events.

       Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred.

       Demonstrate initiative, effectively prioritize, and possess strong organizational skills.
        Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED, and Blood borne Pathogens training. 
       Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

       Ability to physically and verbally interact with members and staff. 
       At times, be able to lift amounts up to 50 lbs. 
 
 
Required Training/Certifications: 
       Child Abuse Prevention 
       CPR/AED and First Aid certifications

       The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

 daytime, evening, and weekend availability depending on the needs of the position.
