Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE

As Senior Associate in our Research, Design and Engineering division, you will be a team member of the technical new product development team responsible for the development of fixture, tooling, part design and rapid prototyping throughout the new product development process. You will apply technical skills and knowledge along with supporting technologies on the development of innovative new products that allows SC Johnson to win with the consumer. You will lead the development of tool design and molded parts for SC Johnson products along with defining key process settings and guidelines. You will also be responsible for design, engineering, and robust specifications of SCJ design components, tooling, and fixtures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide technical leadership within a cross-functional team to drive the design and development of new products, optimize existing tooling and molded parts, and/or correct tooling-related issues

  • Lead multiple global molds projects and programs simultaneously, collaborating with Global/Regional Molds Engineering, Mold makers/Molding Partners, Mold Procurement, Mechanical Engineering and RD&E Packaging Engineering

  • Lead Pilot mold design review for global projects and manage the knowledge transfer to Global/Regional engineering across the mold construction

  • Manage project tasks according to SCJ processes and best practices (including the Molds Engineering SOP), identifying and collaborating with a cross functional team on process improvement opportunities.

  • Deliver a range of prototypes to project teams, spanning from conceptual (looks like and/or works like) to fully developed engineered parts that are made from prototype or development tooling

  • Consult on new mold designs to assure the molds will meet our SCJ “Mold Design and Construction Standards”

  • Support the Project Manager with detailed input to the project timeline and risk identification / mitigation plans to achieve project objectives

  • Ability to lead technical work ranging from individual research initiatives to more complex projects, while managing multiple priorities

  • Interact closely with RD&E, Design, and Engineering to identify critical product and package attributes and manufacturing requirements

  • Contribute to technical work ranging from individual research initiatives to more complex projects, while managing multiple priorities

  • Create and maintain clear, complete, and concise records including 2D drawings and 3D CAD of components, tooling, fixtures, and gauges

  • Use CAD/CAM software to create tooling, fixture, and gage designs

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

  • Journeyman Certificate in Tool & Die, Mold Making, or other Design Development technology, AND 5+ years of experience in prototyping/tool & die making

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States

PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS

  • Associates degree in related field

  • Computer literacy (MS Office)

  • Proficiency / working knowledge with CAD/CAM software (SolidWorks, NX, MasterCAM)

  • Strong technical expertise and working knowledge of multiple processes such as injection molding, blow molding, thermoforming, sealing technologies, assembly techniques, stamping, casting, and finishing, as well as scale-up and manufacturing line requirements

  • Working knowledge of metrology method development

  • Technical curiosity to investigate the source of issues or opportunities and provide innovative ideas, expertise, and knowledge with a high degree of integrity, speed, and a results-oriented approach

  • Awareness of various rapid prototyping technologies

  • Expedite construction of in house and outsourced tooling

  • Strong oral/written communication skills, with ability to communicate effectively and concisely to all levels within the organization

  • Strong team and interpersonal skills; effective verbal and written communications

  • Strong leadership, influence, and cross-functional team skills to effectively work across internal organizational boundaries

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Full time office position at Howe Street/Racine Headquarters campus

  • Remote work is available once a week for eligible employees.

  • Up to 20% domestic and international travel

  • Ability to sit, stand, and lift 50lbs

  • This role is not eligible for relocation
