Job Summary

The general purpose of the Director of Engineering is managing the mixed use Hotel / Resort's Engineering Department, including all related activities including hiring and maintaining an effective work force appropriate for an upscale Hotel / Resort; establish and maintain preventative maintenance programs for all equipment, systems, guestrooms and public areas/ general maintenance; participate in effective safety programs; coordinate and implement capital improvement projects; establish, maintain and manage department budgets and monthly forecasts. Responsible for all aspects of the Engineering Department to include but not limited to, maintaining all facilities, equipment, furniture, fixtures, systems and landscaping at the highest quality standards.

Essential Functions
  • Hire, train and direct all department personnel
  • Provide efficient use of manpower to maintain workload
  • Provide timely performance appraisals
  • Assign and verify completion of routine maintenance and operation of physical structure of resort, all mechanical systems and any other systems which effect the operation of the facility. Visually inspect quality of work and direct staff and outside contractors in tasks according to performance and productivity standards.
  • Conducts walk-through and visually assesses the safe and efficient maintenance and operation of the physical structures of the Resort, all mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems, vehicles and any other related equipment.
  • Manage adequate inventory of parts, supplies, tools and material for the department
  • Enforce Hotel / Resort and Company policies and procedures
  • Must be able to effectively problem solve Hotel / Resort guest/team member challenges
  • Must be able to respond to emergency situations, such as fire alarms, and other life-safety situations
  • Maintain files per department guidelines. Schedule and conduct monthly department meetings.
  • Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all federal, state, local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Assure proper certification of all employee mechanics and technicians, as required.
  • Solicit and administer all sub-contract work.
  • Analyze bids and verify quantities, as appropriate.
  • Negotiate, prepare, and administer agreements and contracts with consultants and contractors.
  • Liaison with governmental agencies and manage the procurement and compliance with entitlements, permits, inspections, notices, and other requirements.
  • Produce annual operating budget for payroll, expenses, utilities, and capital improvements.
  • Operate all areas within budgeted guidelines.
  • Provide budget analysis each period.
  • Establish and maintain an efficient inventory and purchasing system.
  • Maintain the Hotel / Resort facility and related equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

Other Duties
  • All Associates are required to fully comply with hotel and departmental rules, regulations and policies for the safe, secure, effective and environmentally friendly operation of the hotel facilities. Examples include, but are not limited to lost and found procedures, emergency procedures, recycling efforts, etc.
  • Attend and participate in all hotel and/or departmental meetings, training sessions and other information meetings.
  • Regular attendance in conformance with hotels standards is essential to the successful performance of this position.
  • Comply with hotel grooming standards for both uniformed and non-uniformed associates.
  • Comply with hotel service and behavioral standards towards our guests, vendors and fellow colleagues, including, but not limited to ensuring proper phone etiquette, courteous and respectful behavior and maintaining a friendly and positive attitude.
  • Perform all other duties as directed by management that are consistent with the policies and procedures of the hotel.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Physical Effort:

Significant portions of day require prolonged standing and moving, lifting or transporting materials up to 50 lbs. such as equipment, tools, boxes, etc. Ability to visually review documents and computer screen throughout day.

Physical Environment:

Ability to walk or stand for extended periods of time during course of shift.

Manual Skills

Significant portions of daily assignments involve application of manual skills requiring motor coordination in combination with finger dexterity, e.g., typing, handwriting, or machine operations .

Work Schedule:

Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, Associates may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.

Safety:

Responsible for operating within hotel safety guidelines, including the safe and responsible operation of hotel equipment. Reports and addresses safety concerns as they arise. Ensures safe handling of chemicals in accordance with hotel and department standards and utilizes proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when appropriate.
