They typically work under supervision and assist with tasks such as drafting technical documents, conducting research, analyzing data, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Associate Engineers often gain practical experience and training to advance to higher-level engineering roles as they develop their skills.

What are some typical challenges associate engineers face when transitioning from academic projects to industry roles?

Associate Engineers often find the transition from academic projects to industry roles challenging due to differences in project scope, teamwork dynamics, and pace. In industry, you’ll likely work on larger, multi-disciplinary teams where effective communication and collaboration are crucial. Support business development through proposal preparation, client presentations, interviews, networking, and the development of new and existing accounts. Mentor engineers and designers at different stages of their careers while contributing to resource planning, workload management, and professional development. Coordinate closely with mechanical engineers and other disciplines to deliver practical, integrated building solutions.

Participate in site reviews, construction meetings, and the resolution of design and construction-related issues. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Current registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario is required

Previous experience mentoring engineers and designers and helping to build effective project teams.

Strong client-facing communication, presentation, proposal, and relationship-management skills. Commercial awareness and an interest in contributing to business development and practice growth. Familiarity with Revit, BIM-based project delivery, and modern engineering design workflows.

Why Consider This Opportunity. Join a respected and established consulting engineering firm with a strong portfolio of repeat commercial and retail work. Take on a visible leadership position with meaningful influence over projects, clients, people, and the future growth of the practice.
