Job description
Reporting to the Provost, the Associate Director of Academic Assessment is a key member of the Provost’s leadership team, providing guidance and support in the design, implementation, coordination, and continuous improvement of college-wide assessment systems that support teaching, learning, academic planning, accreditation readiness, and strategic decision-making. Working collaboratively with constituents from across the College and CUNY Central to manage the following: designing and overseeing division-wide assessment systems; integration of assessment with academic planning, Systemic Approach to Guttman Effectiveness (SAGE), and strategic decision making; assessment infrastructure including Academic Program Review (APR), accreditation (especially Middle States Commission on Higher Education), and divisional reporting. The Associate Director of Academic Assessment plays a leadership role in fostering a culture where assessment is used to continuously improve teaching and learning, working in conjunction with faculty and academic programs and departments.
This position will participate in task forces and councils and committees as assigned by Provost to improve student success, retention, and completion initiatives. The Associate Director may represent the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at College, University, and other external programs as needed, and will serve on appropriate college and university committees and task forces.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Serves on the Academic Assessment and Learning Committee and providing guidance and support, including agenda setting, process design, policy development, and coordination of institutional assessment initiatives, including oversight of the coordination of annual assessment days.

Lead design, revision, and implementation of Academic Program Review guidelines, templates, and processes to support the faculty review of APRs.
-
Lead institutional interpretation and dissemination of assessment findings to inform academic planning, program review, accreditation reporting, strategic initiatives, and resource allocation.
-
Develop and implement institutional program learning assessment frameworks, including curriculum mapping infrastructure, annual assessment calendars, reporting cycles, and continuous improvement processes.
-
Support faculty in the identification and development of assignments and other assessment instruments and rubrics used to assess learning objectives
-
Write assessment reports for Academic Affairs based on institutional assessment, testing, survey, and/or program data.
-
Manage the institutional review cycles for Program Learning Outcomes, Course Learning Outcomes, and General Education outcomes to ensure accessibility, alignment, and continuous improvement.
-
Design and implement a professional development strategy focused on building faculty and staff capacity to use assessment data to improve teaching, curriculum design, program effectiveness, and student success.

Manage oversight of all Academic Affair SAGE profiles (e.g. Support alignment of strategic planning initiatives (including SAGE) with assessment processes)

Incorporate First Year Experience and co-curricular (e.g., Honors Program, Study Abroad) assessment design, implementation, and management into assessment processes.

Lead development of Academic Affairs’ institutional assessment reports, accreditation evidence narratives, assessment dashboards, and planning documents used for internal governance and external review.

Develop and maintain institutional assessment dashboards in collaboration with Institutional Research and digital assessment infrastructure (Assessment G-Net, dashboards, SOP repositories, reporting tools, etc.)

Assume other duties as assigned by the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs as needed.

QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree and six years' related experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and/or multiple years of experience leading assessment initiatives displaying experience in research methods and design.

Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with faculty.

Strong organizational, project management, evidence collection/analysis skills and the ability to work independently and attend to multiple projects simultaneously.

Knowledge of accreditation requirements, especially MSCHE

Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Watermark software, and other statistical and analytic software
Manages College activities related to assessment planning to achieve excellence in student learning outcomes through systemic course and program assessment.

Advises department personnel in developing assessable course and program goals, learning outcomes, and assessment measures

Designs, conducts, and reports on assessment activities

Analyzes and reports on activities, results, and recommendations, and plans future goals and targets; coordinates reporting with College management and external organizations

Collaborates with faculty on issues related to assessment for teaching and learning initiatives, including grant proposals and reports
