Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The mission of the Department of Mathematics is to extend the frontiers of mathematical knowledge and the ways it is used in the real world, to disseminate that knowledge and to train the next generation of teachers and researchers, as well as those choosing careers with industry or government. The Department is committed to building and nourishing interactions with other units across the UNC campus and with academic and industrial partners in North Carolina's Research Triangle region, throughout the State and across the Nation. The Department maintains a strong research program as well as a comprehensive educational program. An active, healthy research environment is essential for training graduate students and enlivens undergraduate teaching by bringing students into contact with new and relevant mathematics, fostering fundamental mathematical skills and appreciation, and encouraging students to become the next generation of researchers and educators.
Position Summary
The Department of Mathematics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate positions in the field of Analysis, broadly interpreted and including harmonic analysis, the analysis of partial differential equations, dynamical systems, geometric analysis, etc. During the first year, the position will be funded in part through the National Science Foundation Research Training Group (RTG) award: 'Partial Differential Equations on Manifolds'. Information on the Analysis and PDE group and the NSF RTG can be found at https://tarheels.live/waves/. If renewed, in subsequent years, the position will likely be as a Departmental Postdoc. This one-year position is renewable for a maximum of three years pending satisfactory performance and mutual interest. While funded from the RTG, duties of this position include teaching two semester-long courses during each academic year. As a Departmental Postdoc, a teaching load of three semester-long courses during the academic year is expected. This is in addition to supervising students and continued strong and independent research.
