Assistant Professor- Ecology and Evolution Biology
Job Summary
The Department of Biology at Tuskegee University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Ecology and Evolution beginning Fall 2026. Areas of interest include ecological and evolutionary processes that shape life over time, marine science and conservation, and connections between ecology, evolution, human health, and wellbeing. Preference will be given to candidates whose research bridges ecology, evolutionary biology, and marine science. We prefer candidates whose research uses modern datasets and computational approaches, including data science, probability theory, machine learning, or related methods to address fundamental questions in ecology and evolutionary biology or to apply these approaches to societally relevant challenges.
Essential Job Duties
  • Teaching assigned biology courses, including lectures and laboratories.
  • Preparing, maintaining, and organizing laboratory materials and ensuring safety and cleanliness.
  • Developing syllabi, assessments, and course materials in alignment with institutional guidelines.
  • Using varied teaching methods, instructional media, and technology to promote student learning and success.
  • Advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, maintaining accessibility through office hours and electronic communication.
  • Assessing and communicating with student progress in a timely manner.
  • Contributing to curriculum development and program assessment.
  • Maintaining professional relationships with students, colleagues, and administration.
  • Participating in departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings and submitting required reports.
  • Engaging in professional development and demonstrating a commitment to instructional excellence.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolution Biology, Environmental Science, Marine Science or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience integrating computational approaches (e.g. data science, machine learning, probability theory) into ecological or evolutionary research.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Expertise in marine biology.
  • Record of successful teaching experience at the college level.
  • Demonstrated potential to secure external funding through grantsmanship.
