Job description

Sr. Associate Software Developer Hybrid, Cary, North Carolina
We're a leader in data and AI. Through our software and services, we inspire customers around the world to transform data into intelligence - and questions into answers.
If you're looking for a dynamic, fulfilling career with flexibility and a world-class employee experience, you'll find it here. We're recognized around the world for our inclusive, meaningful culture and innovative technologies by organizations like Fast Company, Forbes, Newsweek and more.
About the job
The Fulfillment Integration, Readiness and Enablement (FIRE) team is looking for a Software Developer to be part of a team focused on ensuring SAS products are defined, validated, and delivered accurately and efficiently. Our team works at the intersection of product, engineering, testing, and fulfillment to analyze planned changes, assess readiness for delivery, and enable consistent, high-quality software packaging and release outcomes.
We are committed to:
  • Delivering exceptional service to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintaining high standards of accuracy and reliability in software packaging definition and release to customers
  • Continuously improving our workflows and adopting innovative technologies to enhance operational efficiency
  • Fostering a collaborative environment where stakeholders contribute ideas and expertise to solve challenges
  • Supporting company goals through proactive communication and cross-divisional collaboration

As a member of the Fulfillment Strategy & Operations (FSO) organization in R&D at SAS, you will contribute to a dynamic team responsible for defining software for use in internal systems from testing through delivery to external customers. Duties include analysis of planned deliverables for new and existing products, assessment of readiness for recurring delivery cadences, evaluation of cross-system and business impacts. The role also involves implementing data configurations and targeted software changes that ensure internal systems accurately reflect the intended customer experience, enabling accurate testing, validation, and delivery. Your contributions support cross-divisional initiatives that drive SAS technical, operational, and financial objectives.
The successful candidate should be a valuable contributor that enjoys low-level implementation of complex systems spanning divisional boundaries across SAS. The candidate should be highly motivated to meet the needs of the business in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. The candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team of software developers and operational support staff.
As a Sr. Associate Software Developer, you will:
  • Analyze planned product and platform changes to identify potential risks, dependencies, and business impacts across the software delivery lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with product management, engineering, testing, and fulfillment teams to ensure implementations meet functional requirements, align with R&D standards, and accurately support intended functionality and customer experience.
  • Implement and maintain data configurations and targeted technical solutions that enable consistent testing, validation, and release outcomes aligned with recurring delivery cadences.
  • Design and develop high quality, testable and scalable software solutions to support automation, remediation, enablement, and readiness initiatives, while adhering to R&D best practices and processes.
  • Participate in project planning, scoping and scheduling activities; track work and proactively communicate risks, issues, and changes that may impact delivery commitments.
  • Ensure solution quality and full lifecycle ownership by performing functional, unit, and performance testing, reviewing test plans, driving updates to data, configuration, and code, while maintaining clear documentation for internal and external consumers.
  • Ensure all applicable security policies and processes are followed to support the organization's secure software development goals.
  • Be encouraged to participate in open-source projects on behalf of SAS.
  • Embrace curiosity, passion, authenticity, and accountability. These are our values and influence everything we do.

Required qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in software development, systems analysis, testing or data analysis
  • Programming experience in Go, Python, Perl, React, or similar (RESTful API experience preferred).
  • Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and familiarity with SAS programming language.
  • Familiarity with software development tools and environments, including Git/GitHub and Unix operating systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze systems, troubleshoot issues, and translate requirements into technical solutions.
  • Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.

Additional competencies, knowledge and skills
  • Decision Making - Identifying and understanding problems and opportunities by gathering, analyzing, and interpreting information, evaluating cross-system and business impacts, and selecting appropriate actions based on defined criteria and constraints.
  • Communication - Conveying information clearly and concisely to individuals or groups, ensuring understanding and retention, while actively listening to others.
  • Collaborating - Working cooperatively with others to achieve shared goals in a team or cross-functional environment.
  • Working familiarity with Docker / Kubernetes (K8s) in a software delivery, testing, or deployment context
  • Experience using AI assisted development tools to improve software design, implementation, and productivity.
  • Familiarity with product and software development lifecycle practices, methodologies, and principles.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment.

World-class benefits
Highlights include...
  • Comprehensive medical, prescription, dental and vision plans.
  • Medical plan options include:
    • PPO with low annual deductible and copays.
    • HDHP combined with a health savings account with a contribution from SAS (no access to on-site health care center).
  • Onsite Health Care Center (HQ) that's free to employees and family members enrolled in the PPO plan. There's a pharmacy too! Not local to HQ? The pharmacy will ship prescriptions for no additional charge!
  • An industry-leading 401k plan.
  • Tuition Assistance Program and programs and resources to support your development
  • Generous time away including vacation time, a variety of paid holidays, and our much-loved U.S. Winter Wellness Break between December 25 and January 1.
  • Volunteer Time Off, parental leave and unlimited paid sick days.
  • Generous childcare benefits for all full-time employees.

You are welcome here.
