Job description

The Transportation Construction Inspector will observe and document daily Roadway and Bridge construction activities for the purpose of quality control to determine structural soundness and compliance with specifications and other regulations. Inspections may be general in nature or may be limited to a specific area.

Responsibilities

  • Complete inspection and documentation of a wide variety of construction activities by the contractor confirming all work is being done in accordance with specifications.
  • 80% of time will be located in office setting with responsibility for certifications, work orders and estimates.
  • Review and interpret contract and job specifications
  • Maintain daily paperwork in accordance with clients' requirements

Requirements

  • Perform math calculations
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Detail oriented
  • A valid driver's license is required
  • Physical requirements
    • Stand for extended periods of time
    • Walk several miles per day
    • Work in the outdoors in various weather conditions
    • Work various shifts including overtime as needed
    • Travel to project sites

Eligibility

  • 2 years minimum of transportation, highway or bridge construction inspection experience; or 4 years minimum of highway or bridge construction or
  • Associates Degree or higher in Civil Engineering or Construction Management; or Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering field
  • Preferred but not required certifications - NICET highway construction level II, PennDOT concrete, NECEPT bituminous
