Job Description

The role is to function primarily as a Dev/Ops Administrator and Engineer for the Rocket Enterprise Server (formerly known as Micro Focus) environment.  The role involves interfacing with vendors for issue resolution and providing technical guidance to development teams regarding platform capabilities and limitations.

You will assist with developing infrastructure design specifications supporting critical legacy core applications. You will evaluate, plan, and integrate hardware, software, and middleware solutions while ensuring seamless system performance. You will apply and test patch updates and upgrades as required.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, automate, and maintain Micro Focus Enterprise Server and Enterprise Developer across multiple environments (Sandbox, Unit, System, Release, Prod, Maint) on Linux, performing system maintenance including spool and log management, diagnostics, and issue resolution. 
  • Design infrastructure solutions to meet business requirements for Micro Focus, Linux/Unix/Windows, and iSeries/AS400 environments. 
  • Ensure IT governance compliance by managing technical documentation, KPI reporting, code promotions, third-party software updates, and disaster recovery requirements. 
  • Optimize system performance by analyzing throughput and resource utilization, implementing necessary modifications. 
  • Participates in on-call Tier 2 and 3 production support activities. Is expected to have the technical knowledge and capability to handle most problems that may arise. 
  • Responsible for accurately estimating and planning activities within the domain to provide the necessary input into the project managers for developing an end to end plan under the direction of the manager or consultant. 
  • Coordinates activities with vendors as required. 

Additional Responsibilities 

  • Responds to Service Desk referrals of end-user requests for help solving issues related to the systems hosting key platform applications.. 
  • Prioritizes problems based on severity, urgency, and impact on the business; tracks all outstanding incidents until successful resolution. 
  • Coordinates through the change management process to move, install, upgrade, remove and configure site IT assets and supporting infrastructure. 
  • Maintains the asset management system (additions/changes/deletions) for accurate tracking of all IT assets within the site(s). 
  • Identifies and recommends budgetary items based on infrastructure additions/improvements/removals. 
  • Performs other related duties and participates in on-call rotation and special projects as assigned. 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering with 5-7 years of relevant work experience OR demonstrated ability to meet the job requirements through a comparable number of years of applicable work experience 
  • 3-5 years experience as an administrator for Micro Focus Enterprise Server and Enterprise Developer. 
  • Installation, patching, upgrading 
  • Understanding of Linux Operating Systems, RHEL 8 or better.
  • Familiarity and experience with AS400 concepts:  RPG, CL, MQ, 
  • Understanding of system organization and concepts both from an application and systems programming perspective. 
  • Familiarity and/or Experience with Mainframe concepts: COBOL, MQ, CICS, DB2, REXX, JCL 
  • Understanding of system organization and concepts both from an application and systems programming perspective. 
  • Non-mainframe: Understanding of Windows/Unix/Linux  & Java programming is a plus but not required.

Additional Information

RRD's current salary range for this role is $78,700 to $125,900 / year. The salary range may be adjusted based on the applicable geographic location of the hired employee, and the range may change in the future. At RRD, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions may vary based upon, but not limited to education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift and location. Depending on the role, in addition to base salary, the total compensation package may also include participation in a bonus, commission or incentive program.
