Accountability ObjectiveThe Child Development Teaching Associate plans, performs, and supervises instructional and recreational activities for children in the Child Development Center.
Required QualificationsAbility to stand, kneel, sit, stoop, lift 20+ lbs., climb, reach, and run/chase
At least 19 years of age
An Associate Degree in Early Childhood or credentialed through Illinois Gateways to Opportunity: ECE credential Level 4, or Two years of credits from accredited college or university with six semester or equivalent quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development, from birth to age six
Skills and personal competence necessary to contribute to the children's physical, intellectual, personal, emotional, and social development
Desired QualificationsB.S./B.A. Degree in Early Childhood Education, the following credential from Illinois Gateways to Opportunity: ECE credential Level 5 and Infant Toddler Level 1or related degree
At least 1,000 hours of Child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten, or licensed day care center

Essential Job Function1.Assumes ultimate responsibility for planning a developmentally appropriate curriculum or program for young children.
Essential Job Function2.Plans lessons in cooperation and coordination with other early childhood associates.
Essential Job Function3. Submits written lesson plans and newsletters on a regular basis (which are developmentally appropriate) to the Child Development Center Director.
Essential Job Function4. Assist with the supervision of student workers, work study students, and interns assigned to the teacher's respective group.
Essential Job Function5.Plans appropriate playground activities as a reflection of the curriculum.
Essential Job Function6.Keeps coordinator informed of instructional material and equipment needs of the Center to ensure a sound instructional atmosphere and a safe environment.
Essential Job Function7. Participates in in-service training and workshops (minimum of 20 hours per year) to further professional development. The training is below:
• Department of Children and Family Services 15 hrs. (July to June).
• ExceleRate 20 hrs. (Sept- August).
• Member to Gateway to Opportunity, Illinois Professional Development System
Essential Job Function8. Maintains cooperative relationships with the Director, instructors and staff from the Early Childhood Services Program in order to keep the Child Center curriculum reflective of the Early Childhood Services Program.
Essential Job Function9. Upholds the highest standards for early childhood programs as advocated by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the Association for Childhood Education.
Essential Job Function10. Assess classroom environment using the Environmental Rating Scales: Infant and Toddler Environmental Rating Scale (ITERS) and Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale (ECERS).
Essential Job Function11. Assess all children using Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ's): within 45 days of enrollment, Center Evaluation, and Portfolio Plan.
