Job description

Purpose

This role builds and maintains the applications and integrations that serve Citadel's internal teams and external customers, with modern AI-assisted development as a core part of how the work gets done. Beyond its direct service line, the role partners with IT leadership and peers across IT and the broader business to ensure exceptional service to Citadel's internal and external customers. The role builds AI-enabled features, automation, and decision-support capabilities into Citadel's applications where they advance business outcomes, stays current as AI tools and workflows advance at a pace this industry has not seen before, manages assigned development work, and is accountable for the quality, reliability, and ongoing support of the applications it builds and maintains. Trust, respect, and collaboration are central to how Citadel operates, and the IT function embodies that ethos in how its team works together, partners with the rest of the business, and serves the customers Citadel supports.

Essential Job Functions

  • Design, build, test, and ship business applications, integrations, and automation that serve Citadel's internal teams and external customers.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools as a core part of the daily workflow. Apply current best practices for prompting, task decomposition, context management, and output review. Stay current as the field evolves and bring proven advances into the team's practice.
  • Apply rigorous review discipline to AI-generated code, including correctness validation, security review against known vulnerability patterns, test coverage verification, and adherence to Citadel's coding standards. Maintain clear judgment about when AI tools can take the work and when human design, review, or rewrite is required.
  • Build AI-enabled features and agent-assisted workflows into Citadel's applications where they advance business outcomes. Apply current patterns for prompting, context, tool use, evaluation, and safety controls.
  • Monitor and manage the cost of AI usage across development workflows and AI-enabled features. Share workflow learnings, prompts, and reusable patterns with the development team.
  • Work directly with assigned business departments to understand workflows, identify opportunities, and build tools that improve how the business operates. Partner with stakeholders from concept through prototyping, rollout, adoption, and ongoing support.
  • Maintain and modernize the existing application portfolio. Pay down technical debt, address security and compliance findings, and keep applications current with platform and dependency updates.
  • Integrate applications with Citadel's core platforms, including ERP, finance, identity, and other operational systems, through APIs and data flows.
  • Build reporting and analytics deliverables for business consumers using Power BI, Crystal Reports, and the data flows that feed them.
  • Develop in Citadel's primary stack (.NET, C#, web technologies, SQL Server) with the supporting toolchain (Visual Studio, Git, IDE integrations, and AI assistants). Design and maintain database schemas, queries, stored procedures, and reporting data flows.
  • Apply secure development practices, including input validation, secrets management, authentication and authorization controls, dependency management, and peer code review.
  • Perform in line with established sprint commitments, quality targets, and team KPIs. Participate in sprint planning, backlog grooming, and peer code review.
  • Take ownership of incidents and issues in applications built or maintained by this role. Participate in on-call coverage as scheduled. Diagnose, fix, communicate root cause and resolution, and maintain runbooks and technical documentation.
  • Identify and propose improvements in architecture, integration patterns, reusable components, deployment, and technical debt. Lead approved initiatives through delivery.
Non-Essential
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Function is incidental or a minimal part of the job.
  • Non-essential functions could be redistributed among other team members.
  • Reasonable accommodations are made in this area of the job.

Minimum Qualifications or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline. Equivalent professional experience considered in lieu of degree.
  • 3+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Hands-on experience with .NET, C#, and modern web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and a current frontend framework).
  • Hands-on experience with SQL Server, including writing queries and stored procedures and designing schemas.
  • Experience integrating applications with third-party systems through APIs.
  • Experience working with version control (Git) and modern development workflows, including sprints, peer code review, and continuous integration.
  • Hands-on experience using modern AI-assisted development tools as a core part of daily work, including code generation, refactoring, debugging, and test creation, with a demonstrated practice of validating, reviewing, and refining AI-generated code before it reaches production. Working familiarity with at least one mainstream tool such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, OpenAI Codex, or comparable.
  • Experience supporting applications in production, including diagnosing issues, addressing user-reported bugs, and managing release coordination.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical business stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience writing secure, maintainable, and well-documented code.

Preferred Qualifications or Experience

  • Experience in aviation, aerospace, manufacturing, MRO, or other regulated operational environments.
  • Experience building AI-enabled features into business applications, including large language model integration, retrieval patterns, prompt engineering, or agentic workflows.
  • Experience with agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Devin, or comparable) and judgment about when to delegate work to agents.
  • Experience integrating with or supporting ERP and other operational business platforms (Microsoft Dynamics GP, Corridor Aviation, or comparable).
  • Experience with reporting platforms such as Power BI or Crystal Reports.
  • Experience with Python or Node.js as a complement to the .NET stack.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position has no direct reports.
  • Day-to-day coordination with peers in software development and with stakeholders in assigned business departments.
  • Provides technical mentorship and AI workflow guidance to junior developers or interns as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Other Attributes

  • Strong technical proficiency in .NET, C#, SQL Server, and modern web development.
  • Working knowledge of API design and system integration patterns.
  • Strong fluency with AI-assisted development tools and judgment about when to apply them, when human design and review is required, and how to verify outputs against common failure modes (security vulnerabilities, paper tests, over-engineered solutions, architectural drift).
  • Ability to design clean, maintainable, and secure application architecture appropriate to the scope of the work.
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging discipline, with a bias toward identifying and resolving root cause.
  • Project management and prioritization skills across simultaneous tasks and stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication with both technical peers and business stakeholders, including the ability to translate technical concepts for senior leadership audiences.
  • Customer service mindset, treating business stakeholders as partners in shipping the right thing.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and willing to engage across the full lifecycle from idea through production support.
