Job Summary/Basic Function
1. Correlates clinical experiences with theory component of course as outlined in the
syllabi and catalog. Assigned teaching responsibilities may include clinical teaching on
the various WSU campuses, various outreach campus sites, co-operative campus sites,
and/or for online formatted courses.
2. Plans, prepares, and organizes a variety of relevant teaching learning strategies and
instructional materials for laboratory, simulation, and clinical student experience,
including, but not limited to post-conferences and debriefing.
3. Creates an environment conducive to learning.
4. Plans and supervises clinical experiences for students, including creates the clinical
schedule and posts it in the learning management system.
5. Maintains a liaison role between the assigned clinical agency(ies) and the program
clinical coordinator.
6. Grades clinically-based written assignments as outlined in course syllabi.
7. Evaluates student performance in clinical course requirements in a systematic and
objective manner.
8. Performs midterm and final evaluations of student performance.
9. Maintains student records related to clinical learning activities.
10. Maintains clinical competency in teaching assignment and current knowledge regarding
agency policies.
11. Maintains scheduled office hours and/or availability to students.
12. Evaluates lab, simulation, and/or clinical teaching resources and materials for currency
and relevancy and suggests revisions to the course chair.
13. Appraises available clinical teaching resources and recommends acquisitions of
materials.
14. Prepares student clinical assignments to meet course goals/outcomes.
15. Encourages students to assume responsibility for own development.
16. Assists students with problem-solving techniques.
17. Serves as an exemplary role model for students.
18. Assists students in acquiring professional attitudes, knowledge, and behaviors.
19. Plans and prepares student application of technology-based clinical systems and
software.
20. Prior to scheduling extracurricular activities that will impact contracted faculty
activities, informs assigned Program Director/Program Clinical Coordinator of the
activity and gains approval.
21. Is available to their assigned students during scheduled clinical experiences.
Required Qualifications
A master's degree in Nursing or currently enrolled in a master's or doctorate program.
Active unrestricted Utah Registered Nurse License (or compact state license).
Clinical nursing expertise.
Must comply with clinical requirements (i.e., vaccinations, TB testing, CPR, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate degree is preferred.
Previous teaching experience preferred.
