Associate Controller Salary information

What is the average salary for an associate controller?

The average salary for an Associate Controller in the United States typically ranges from $85,000 to $120,000 per year, depending on factors such as location, years of experience, industry, and company size. Metropolitan areas and large corporations often offer higher salaries, while smaller firms or less competitive markets may pay toward the lower end of the range. In addition to base salary, some Associate Controllers may receive bonuses or other incentives based on company performance.

What are some common challenges faced by associate controllers in managing multiple financial reporting deadlines?

Associate Controllers often juggle several responsibilities, including preparing financial statements, overseeing compliance, and supporting audits, all with tight deadlines. One key challenge is prioritizing tasks efficiently while ensuring accuracy and adherence to regulatory standards. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, such as accounting and finance staff, can help streamline workflows, but effective communication and strong organizational skills are essential to manage overlapping deadlines successfully.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate controller, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Associate Controller, you need strong expertise in accounting principles, financial analysis, and budgeting, typically supported by a degree in accounting or finance and several years of relevant experience. Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, advanced Excel skills, and often a CPA certification are highly valued in this role. Excellent attention to detail, leadership abilities, and strong communication skills help you manage teams and convey complex financial data to stakeholders. These skills ensure accurate financial reporting, effective internal controls, and sound financial decision-making within an organization.

What is the difference between Associate Controller Salary vs Financial Analyst?

The Associate Controller typically earns a higher salary than a Financial Analyst due to more advanced credentials, responsibilities, and a focus on accounting and financial reporting. While both roles require finance-related degrees, the Associate Controller's role involves overseeing accounting functions, which often commands higher compensation compared to the analytical focus of a Financial Analyst.

Is an associate controller a high level job?

An associate controller is a mid- to senior-level accounting position responsible for assisting the controller in financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls. It typically requires several years of experience and advanced accounting skills, making it a relatively high-level role within finance departments. However, it is generally considered below the level of a controller or CFO in organizational hierarchy.

What does an associate controller do?

An associate controller supports the financial management of an organization by assisting with accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls. They often prepare financial statements, analyze data, and ensure compliance with regulations, typically working under the supervision of a controller or finance manager. Strong analytical skills and proficiency with accounting software are essential for this role.
