Sr. Director, Business Operations

Reports To

Chief Strategy Officer

Location

Alpharetta, GA

Schedule

4 days/week in office

Level

Sr. Director

About the Role

The Sr. Director of Business Operations is a senior operator and trusted partner to the CSO, CEO, and COO, responsible for running the company's strategic operating rhythm and solving its most consequential cross-functional problems. This role sits at the center of the business - owning the QBR and OKR processes, driving alignment between GTM and Product, and leading the analytical and operational groundwork for market entry and strategic expansion.

This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives at the intersection of strategy and execution - equally comfortable building a business case for the Board, facilitating a cross-functional working session with the heads of Product and Sales, or diagnosing why a market entry plan isn't gaining traction. The ideal candidate brings the rigor of a top-tier consulting background and the instincts of a seasoned operator.

Key Responsibilities

Running the Business

  • Own the company's strategic operating rhythm
  • Partner with Finance to run the annual operating plan (AOP) process, ensuring strategic priorities translate into funded, accountable plans across functions.
  • Own the OKR process end-to-end - goal setting, mid-cycle tracking, and cycle retrospectives - as the single source of truth on what the company committed to and where it stands.
  • Lead quarterly business reviews (QBRs) across Product, GTM and Ops: design the agenda, drive the pre-read process, facilitate the session, and ensure every QBR produces real decisions with clear owners.
  • Identify when strategic priorities and operating realities are drifting apart and escalate proactively to the CSO and COO before gaps become crises.

GTM & Product Interlock

  • Drive alignment between Product and GTM - ensuring the right products reach the right markets with the right go-to-market motion behind them.
  • Lead root cause analysis when the interlock breaks down: win/loss patterns that point to product gaps, pipeline stalls caused by missing features, or GTM motions that don't match the product's value proposition.
  • Build the structural mechanisms - forums, frameworks, and accountabilities - that keep Product and Sales durably aligned, not just aligned after the last offsite.

Market Entry & Strategic Expansion

  • Lead or co-lead market entry efforts for adjacent verticals and new geographies - from market sizing and business case development through go-to-market design and operational readiness.
  • Design the commercial and operating model for new market entry: pricing approach, customer success motion, channel strategy, and service delivery structure.
  • Work across Product, Sales, Finance, and Operations to translate market entry decisions into funded operating plans with clear milestones and ownership.

Strategic Air Coverage

  • Serve as the analytical and structural thought partner to the CSO, CEO, and COO on the company's highest-priority strategic questions.
  • Lead high-priority special projects that are cross-functional in nature, require an independent perspective, or need the credibility and sponsorship of the CSO's office.
  • Build the business cases, decision frameworks, and strategic analyses that enable senior leaders to make major capital allocation and portfolio decisions with confidence.
  • Provide the Board and executive team with the strategic grounding they need on complex, multi-function topics - framing trade-offs clearly and presenting conclusions that hold up under scrutiny.
Qualifications & Competencies
  • >10 years of experience combining strategy, operations, and cross-functional leadership, with a track record of solving hard business problems that span functions.
  • Top-tier consulting background strongly preferred (McKinsey, Bain, BCG, or equivalent), with meaningful in-house experience at a technology, industrial, or infrastructure company.
  • Direct experience owning or redesigning QBR and OKR processes at a company with 500+ employees - not just participating in them, but driving and improving them.
  • Demonstrated experience improving GTM-Product alignment - not just diagnosing the problem but changing how the two functions work together.
  • Experience leading market entry efforts: from market sizing and business case development through to go-to-market design and operational build-out.
  • Proven ability to operate without direct authority - moving organizations through influence, credibility, and structured problem-solving rather than positional power.
  • Exposure to utility technology, smart infrastructure, or industrial technology preferred; understanding of how utilities make capital investment decisions is a plus.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communicator - can take a complex, messy cross-functional situation and present it to the CEO or Board in a way that is clear, accurate, and decision-ready.
  • MBA from a leading institution preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 20%

The right candidate brings diagnostic acuity - getting to the real problem, not just the stated one - paired with executive judgment, commercial orientation, and the drive to finish what they start in a complex, matrixed environment.

As a part of the Landis+Gyr family, employees are offered a comprehensive and competitive package of benefits including medical, dental and vision coverage, life insurance, and a 401(k)-retirement plan featuring a generous company match incentive. Additionally, we offer three (3) weeks of Paid Time Off (PTO) as well as eleven (11) paid holidays. We also offer a tuition reimbursement program, optional pet insurance, supplemental medical coverage and a host of other perks to ensure the health, wellness, and enrichment of our team members.

Pay is in the range of $200,000 to $230,000 per year. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include, as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, and certifications or other professional licenses held. All candidates are encouraged to apply.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
We're committed to shaping a better future for everyone. Join Team Green and be part of what's next in energy. #TeamGreen
