How much do associate behavioral therapist jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 16, 2026, the average hourly pay for associate behavioral therapist in the United States is $22.94, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $19.23 and $23.80 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Associate Behavioral Therapist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Associate Behavioral Therapist, you need a solid understanding of behavioral analysis principles, a relevant bachelor's degree (often in psychology or a related field), and sometimes a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential. Familiarity with data collection software, behavior intervention plans, and therapy management systems is typically required. Strong communication, patience, and adaptability are essential soft skills for building rapport with clients and collaborating with families and supervisors. These skills ensure effective implementation of therapy plans, accurate progress tracking, and positive outcomes for clients with behavioral challenges.

Where do behavioral therapists make the most money?

Behavioral therapists tend to earn higher salaries in regions with a higher cost of living and greater demand for mental health services, such as urban areas or states with expanded healthcare funding. Salaries can also increase with experience, advanced certifications, and working in private practice or specialized clinics.

What jobs pay 2000 a day?

Associate Behavioral Therapists typically do not earn $2,000 a day; such high daily rates are usually associated with specialized or highly experienced professionals like surgeons, anesthesiologists, or certain consultants. Most behavioral therapy roles offer salaries or hourly rates significantly below that amount, though some highly experienced or private practitioners may charge high fees per session, which can add up to substantial daily earnings depending on client volume and rates charged.

What are some common challenges faced by Associate Behavioral Therapists when working with clients, and how can they be addressed?

Associate Behavioral Therapists often encounter challenges such as varying client engagement levels, resistance to treatment, and communicating complex behavioral strategies to families. Building rapport with clients, maintaining clear and consistent communication with supervisors, and actively participating in team meetings can help address these challenges. Additionally, seeking feedback and ongoing training will enhance your ability to adapt interventions and collaborate effectively with other professionals.

Is aba in high demand?

Behavioral Therapist roles specializing in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) are in high demand due to increased awareness and diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. The field offers strong job growth prospects, often requiring certification such as BCBA or BCaBA, and typically involves working in clinical or educational settings.

What can you do with an associate's degree in behavioral health?

An associate's degree in behavioral health prepares individuals for roles such as behavioral therapist, mental health technician, or case aide. These positions often involve supporting clients with mental health or behavioral challenges, working under supervision, and may require certification or training in CPR or first aid.

What is an Associate Behavioral Therapist?

An Associate Behavioral Therapist is a professional who works under the supervision of a licensed behavior analyst or therapist to provide behavioral therapy, often to children and adults with autism spectrum disorder or other developmental conditions. They implement treatment plans, collect data on client progress, and use evidence-based techniques like Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to help clients develop new skills and reduce challenging behaviors. Associate Behavioral Therapists typically hold a bachelor’s degree in psychology or a related field and may be working toward further certification or licensure.
