Job description

ImageTek Mfg., a contract manufacturer in Springfield, VT, is growing rapidly and we have exciting new projects in our pipeline. We are seeking an Automation Engineer who is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining and optimizing automation systems that support high-volume manufacturing processes including laminating, die cutting and injection molding. This role focuses on improving equipment, reducing downtime and ensuring product quality through the integration of industrial automation technologies. Please note that visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, program, troubleshoot and maintain PLC, HMI, motional control, and robotic systems using in manufacturing operations.
  • Support automated equipment used in laminating, die cutting, injection molding, assembly and material handling processes.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical, controls, communication and automation related equipment failures.
  • Program and maintain PLC platforms.
  • Configure and maintain HMI and SCADA systems for operator interface and production monitoring.
  • Integrate vision systems, sensors, servo drives, VFDs, safety systems and industrial networking components.
  • Support robotic applications for part handling, packaging and automated assembly.
  • Development preventative maintenance strategies for automation and control systems.
  • Create and maintain electrical drawings, PLC documentation, control narratives and operating procedures.
  • Analyze equipment performance using production data and implement corrective actions to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Support root cause analysis for recurring equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure automation comply with safety standards, electrical codes and company policies.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, OEMs, and integrators during equipment design, commissioning, and trouble shooting.
  • Train maintenance technicians and production personnel on automated equipment operation and troubleshooting.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 3-7 years of automation engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting laminating, die cutting, injection molding, or similar converting/manufacturing processes.
  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming and industrial automation systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and P&IDs.
  • Knowledge of variable frequency drives, pneumatic controls, and machine safety systems.
  • Experience with troubleshooting electrical and controls systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and project management abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Industry 4.0, IIoT, data collection and manufacturing analytics.
  • Experience with MES or ERP integration.
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or GMP manufacturing environments.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise moving machinery, heat and industrial equipment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders and lift up to 40 lbs as needed.
