Associate Attorney (Commercial Finance)

Starfield & Smith, P.C. is a boutique law firm with a national reputation in Small Business Administration (SBA) lending programs. Our attorneys are trusted advisors to banks and non-bank lenders, combining technical regulatory knowledge with practical, business-oriented counsel. 


Position Overview

Starfield & Smith, P.C. seeks a highly motivated attorney to join its Plymouth Meeting, PA office. This position offers a hybrid work environment and a unique opportunity to develop specialized expertise at the intersection of finance and regulatory compliance.

The associate will work closely with experienced attorneys on matters involving SBA lending, commercial loan transactions, workout, liquidation, bankruptcy, and lender-side creditor’s rights litigation.


Core Responsibilities

  • Assist in the documentation and closing of SBA 7(a) and 504 loans and conventional commercial lending transactions
  • Conduct legal research and analysis related to SBA regulations, SOP compliance, and federal lending programs
  • Support attorneys in regulatory compliance matters, including SBA eligibility determinations, loan portfolio audits and government investigations
  • Participate in loan workouts, servicing, and liquidation strategies, including guaranty recovery matters
  • Assist with creditors’ rights, bankruptcy proceedings, and commercial litigation on behalf of financial institutions
  • Draft transactional documents, memoranda, and litigation-related filings
  • Communicate with lender clients, borrowers’ counsel, and internal stakeholders

Practice Exposure

This role provides early, hands-on exposure to:

  • Commercial finance and loan structuring
  • Regulatory compliance and risk mitigation
  • Bankruptcy and creditors’ rights
  • Commercial litigation involving financial institution

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school (recent graduate or judicial clerkship experience preferred)
  • Admission to the Pennsylvania and/or other state Bars (or pending admission)
  • Strong academic credentials and legal research/writing skills
  • Interest in financial services or creditor’s rights
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to manage multiple assignments
  •  Practical problem-solving and analytical thinking capabilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills and client-service orientation

Compensation

  • Starting salary of $100,000 or more, based on experience and qualifications.
