Position Overview

As a Sr. Advisor in Compliance Services, you will play a key role in safeguarding CarMax’s operational integrity and regulatory compliance. In this role, you will support risk management and compliance program activities related to operational regulatory compliance with federal and state laws, industry frameworks, and internal policies. You will develop critical relationships with risk owners and legal team members at all levels of the organization.  You will develop process and requirement subject matter expertise for some of CarMax Auto Finance (CAF) and CarMax’s highest risk areas.  From this knowledge, you will successfully advise on complex process and control design, become a trusted advisor to business leaders, and guide through change by operationalizing regulatory requirements into controls. Leveraging your subject matter expertise, business relationships, and various monitoring activities, you will propose, plan and lead testing efforts

Team Overview

You will be part of a dynamic compliance team that is continually innovating our compliance risk management programs leveraging data, technology, and automation.  This high-performing diverse team is responsible for operational regulatory compliance across CarMax and its service providers. This team plays a critical role in safeguarding CarMax’s reputation and supporting best-in-class compliance practices.

Role Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with operational leaders and legal team members to develop and maintain process and regulatory requirement subject matter expertise and advise on process/control design, gaps, and remediation.  
  • Plan and execute operational compliance testing and monitoring activities to identify, evaluate, and report out on risks, non-compliance, inconsistencies, and process improvements.  Develop risk coverage strategy and creative efficiencies for testing.
  • Gather, review, and validate information as well as testing documentation that supports risk coverage, risk assessment, external examinations, and other reviews. 
  • Escalate issues, identify root causes, and collaborate with business leaders on appropriate actions to remediate.  Summarize complicated findings for executive reporting.
  • Support compliance training and communication initiatives in support of overarching Compliance Program objectives.
  • Ensure consistent high-quality documentation, guidance, and reporting.  Mentor junior advisors.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or related field.
  • 4+ years of compliance or audit experience, preferably in public accounting or large corporate internal audit/compliance department; or 7+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Detailed knowledge & prior experience with risk assessments, internal controls, root cause analysis, and compliance principles.
  • Proven ability to work independently, build relationships, communicate clearly on complex issues, and balance multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA, CIA, or CISA certification.
  • Experience with automated controls, IT general controls, and GRC tools.

The annual salary for this position is:

$82,800.00 - $124,200.00

May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Benefits:

Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.

Associates that are considered full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible:

  • To earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company. 
  • For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday.  If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay. 

Associates considered full-time salaried are entitled to paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.
