Job description

Purpose and Scope:
Working with the classroom teacher, the instructional assistant will assist the classroom teacher in the supervision and instruction of students. The instructional assistant is responsible to help provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Catholic Identity
Responsible to promote and live the Gospel message, while inviting teachers, parents, and students to live out their lives embracing their Catholic faith and their relationship with Christ. The educational leader is responsible to:
a. Foster students' understanding of God's role in their lives and Christ's relationship to each student.
b. Inculcate the living out of Gospel values and commitment to care for others through charity and justice.
c. Assist in providing opportunities for daily prayer, liturgy, frequent prayer services, retreats and other religious education activities throughout the year for students, parents, and staff.
Requirements
  1. Assumes responsibility and takes initiative to assist the classroom teacher.
  2. Assists in supervision and care of students.
  3. Assists the teacher in maintaining a safe physical environment.
  4. Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, and outdoor play.
  5. Assists in classroom set up, clean up, and materials preparation
  6. Assists in arrangement, maintenance, cleanliness, and security of the classroom.
  7. Establishes a good rapport with children.
  8. Assist the teacher to work with individuals and groups of students - including working with progress monitoring data and data reports used to drive group instruction.
  9. Actively engages children in meaningful learning activities and experiences.
  10. Helping children to establish good habits of personal hygiene.
  11. Assist with the implementation of health, emergency procedures, and first aid.
  12. Immediately reports accidents to teacher: Prepares a written report stating date, time, nature of accident, and action taken.
  13. Attends meetings and in-services as required by Principal.
  14. Communicates appropriately with parents and staff and refers all parent questions and concerns pertaining to students to the teacher.
  15. Treats confidential information about students, staff, and school affairs in a professional and ethical manner.
  16. Establishes and maintains cooperative, supportive, and effective relationships with all members of the school community.
  17. Assumes the duties of the teacher in the absence of the teacher.
  18. Is punctual and on time for work.
  19. Performs other related duties as assigned and demonstrates ability to be flexible.
